Forever Friend Max is already perking up so much now that heโs finally getting the medical support he needs! ๐พ
โIn 9 days, Max will need a "glucose curve test" to check his blood sugar levels throughout the day. This is crucial to make sure his current insulin dose and frequency are exactly what his body needs.
โHereโs the catch: this test requires a blood draw every two hours. For a dog that requires sedation just to be examined, an all-day vet stay would be incredibly difficult and stressful. ๐ซฃ Severe stress causes a massive release of adrenaline and cortisol, which actually creates "stress hyperglycemia" (an artificial spike in blood sugar). If a vet uses those inflated clinic numbers, it could lead to an inaccurate and potentially dangerous insulin adjustment.
โPlus, an in-clinic curve test usually costs between $150-$350โand thatโs assuming the dog is cooperative and doesn't need sedation, which we all know this little Tasmanian Devil will NOT be! ๐ช๏ธ
โTo avoid the trauma and get the most accurate readings possible, weโve decided to perform this test at home. We will monitor his glucose levels and water intake in his safe space where he is relaxed and comfortable.
โI have added an $80 pet-specific glucose monitoring kit to his Amazon Wishlist. This kit will allow ME to check his glucose every two hours with a simple, painless ear prick. Not only does this keep Max stress-free, but it also saves the rescue a huge chunk of money!
