Project Hope 2026 is right around the corner, and we are excited to begin preparing for another impactful event dedicated to serving our community. We are currently inviting organizations, agencies, healthcare providers, businesses, and community resources to register as Service Providers for this year’s event.

Project Hope brings together compassionate professionals and volunteers to provide essential services, resources, education, and support to individuals and families in need throughout our community. Your participation as a Service Provider helps make this event possible and creates meaningful connections for those we serve.

We are honored to be part of preserving and sharing this piece of Cape Girardeau history. Excited to welcome the community as we uncover what has been sealed away for more than 50 years!

A piece of Cape Girardeau history is about to be revealed.

In 1975, then Chief Gerecke and members of the Cape Girardeau Police Department placed a time capsule in the cornerstone of the Police Station located at 40 S. Sprigg Street. For more than 50 years, it has remained sealed, preserving a snapshot of our department and community from another era.

On Friday, June 5, at 10:00 a.m., the time capsule will be opened during a special unveiling hosted by Community Partnership of Southeast Missouri, the current owner of the historic building.

We invite our community to join us as we uncover what was left behind for future generations and take a look back at the history of the Cape Girardeau Police Department.

We hope to see you there as we open this time capsule and revisit a chapter of our shared history.
