We are proud members of the Florida Federation of Garden Clubs (FFGC) and the National Garden Clubs (NGC). Thank you for visiting our page. Our Garden Club has members from all parts of the country as well as native Floridians. We have a wealth of wisdom to share! Together we explore the uniqueness of Florida’s diverse plant life and growing climate, learning from one another and our vis

iting speakers. We invite you to join us in our ongoing efforts to encourage environmental consciousness in enjoying the gifts of nature in South West Florida. Our Club was established in 1997 and currently has in excess of 100 members. We are proud members of the Florida Federation of Garden Clubs, Inc., and the National Garden Club, Inc. We are active in the community, caring for the Butterfly Garden at the Cape Coral Public Library and the Rose Garden at the Cape Coral Historical Society. Through our Merit Awards program, we give scholarships to local high school students who are considering careers in the horticultural or environmental fields. We also donate to several schools to support school gardens. Some of our members mentor the students who work in the gardens. So, if you have a lively interest in gardening, and want to make new friends, come join us! We meet the second Wednesday of the month, September through May, at the beautiful Palmetto-Pine County Club, 1940 SW 9th Ct, 33991. Our meetings start at 5:45 pm with a social gathering followed by our monthly educational program and business session. During the season we organize Saturday trips to places of interest in the area. Please view our website www.gardenclubofcapecoral.com for details and updates.

Sheri wanted to show you the stem of senna plant she presented at the meeting the other night. Sheri put it in the butterfly cage and it was filled with sulphur caterpillars today. She counted 7, one hiding in the flowers at the top. Those flowers must be yummy!
Wow Sheri that is a lot of caterpillars.

Here is a recent DYI planter project I completed. I wanted a couple self watering planters as I am constantly forgetting the pots by front door. But self water ones are $$$. I created ones for $5 each as I had most of the stuff around the house.

Ups a Daisy planter insert from Walmart online that will fit snug at least 1/2 - 2/3 down planter. PLANTER CANNOT HAVE ANY DRAINAGE HOLES

Covered little holes with Gorilla waterproof tape

Husband made a large circle cut to hold a plastic cup. Poked holes in cup. Make sure cup will not fall thru (my cup had a little edge to it but I also used more tape)

Cut a 1” pvc pipe a little taller than planter, angled end so would not sit flat at bottom of planter (the insert has a 1” hole already)

Insert into planter and add soil (cup should be firmly packed).

Add water thru pvc pipe.

I need to paint the top of the pipe. I also added a long skinny piece of styrofoam in pipe as a “water meter”. When I see it disappear I know it needs water in the reservoir.

Just thought I would share!
Roberta

We had 10 members at the District IX Spring meeting, held at the Elks Club in Port Charlotte today, hosted by the Port Charlotte Garden Club and led by Sue Lawson. The Florida Federation of Garden Clubs (FFGC) is divided into nine Districts, and we, the Garden Club of Cape Coral, are in FFGC District IX. Each District has a Director, and the Director of District IX is our own Susan Lawson, current member and former President of the Club.
The 10 members there today were Patty and Jennings, Roberta, Nancy, Sylvia, Jeanine, Debbie D, Cathy D, Charlene and Sue. We had breakfast, coffee and tea made by the PC Garden Club and we also had lunch. There were drawings and lots of prizes to be won. And many awards were given to many garden clubs. Thank you! to the Port Charlotte Garden Club for a wonderful event.
