Remember Sunny? Boy was that a fitting name! Pure joy

He came out of animal control with severe third degree burns across his body and down his leg.

We do not know what was done to him, only that he was in pain and still chose love. Heartbreaking and inspiring 😭💞 A torch, hot oil, boiling water? We'll never know

He is gentle, trusting, and he loves everyone. After everything, he still believes in humans🥹

This is why Blake’s Buddies Rescue says yes to some medical dogs, because they feel, forgive, and fight to live. When funds are available, we give them a chance

His family saw him, not for the wounds or the pain he endured, but for the love bug that he is, and they knew he belonged with them.

Now he is safe, healing, and home.

Medical dogs are hard and they are expensive. Sometimes you think it will be 200 or 500 and it turns into 2000 or 5000, but if we do not take the chance, we will never know.

Thank you to everyone who supports us, we could not do this without you.

This is why we do it 💛

A MUST READ

The 3-3-3 Rule is one of the most important things to understand when bringing home a newly adopted dog.

Dogs don’t instantly feel “at home” the moment they walk through the door.

Everything is new.
The smells, the people, the routine, the sounds.

Even the most confident dog needs time to decompress and learn that they are safe.

The first 3 days are about decompression.
Your dog may feel overwhelmed, nervous, or unsure. Some dogs shut down and sleep a lot. Others may pace, whine, or seem anxious. This is normal. Keep things calm, quiet, and predictable while they start settling in.

The first 3 weeks are when your dog begins learning the routine.
They start understanding when meals happen, when it’s time to go outside, and what life in your home looks like. This is also when their personality begins to slowly show. Patience and consistency during this time make a huge difference.

By 3 months, many dogs begin to truly feel at home.
Trust has built. The routine feels familiar. This is when their real personality shines and the bond with their family grows strong.

The 3-3-3 Rule is important because it reminds us that adjustment takes time. A dog that seems shy, nervous, or even a little chaotic at first is often just learning how to exist in a brand new world.

Give them patience.
Give them routine.
Give them time.

And you’ll get to watch a dog transform into the best companion you could ever ask for.
