🍔 Burgers, Students & Community Spirit at SAU Tech!

What happens when local businesses, civic organizations, education and community leaders come together? Sometimes it looks like a whole lot of burgers!

The Camden Regional Chamber was proud to be part of SAU Tech Student Appreciation Day, joining community volunteers to welcome students back and remind them that the Camden region is glad they're here.

Volunteers from L3Harris, Lockheed Martin, Jim Golden Ford, Highland Industrial Park, SAU Tech and Farmers Bank & Trust rolled up their sleeves to help prepare and serve lunch, while members of Rotary, Lions Club and Kiwanis came together on campus for their annual joint civic club meeting.

It was a fun day, but it also represented something bigger.

These students are an important part of the future of our region. When businesses, education, civic organizations and community leaders show up together to support them, we're strengthening the connections that help build our future workforce and our community.

A big thank you to SAU Tech for bringing everyone together and to all of the volunteers who helped make the day a success!

We hope the students left with full stomachs and an even stronger sense that their community is glad they're here.

🌟 Chamber Board Member Spotlight: Mayor Charlotte Young 🌟

This week, we're proud to spotlight Charlotte Young, Mayor of the City of Camden and a member of the Camden Regional Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.

A lifelong Camden resident, Mayor Young has spent many years serving her community. Before being elected Mayor, she served 14 years on the Ouachita County Quorum Court and is also a graduate of the Community Development Institute.

That experience has given her a strong appreciation for what can happen when businesses, local government, community organizations, and citizens work together.

For Charlotte, an important part of the Chamber's renewed mission is supporting the businesses that are already here while helping create an environment where new businesses can make informed decisions and find opportunities to succeed.

“I hope that together we can help encourage and support current businesses while providing information to potential new business owners that will help them make good, educated choices.”

She also sees regional collaboration as an important part of that work; helping businesses build relationships, developing leaders, and creating opportunities for growth while preserving the qualities that make this area special.

And when asked why people should get involved with the Chamber now, Charlotte's answer says it best:

“What better time to get involved than when we are re-organizing? Get in on the ground floor and help to make the Chamber the best it can be.”

Charlotte says one of her favorite things about the Camden region is the heart of its people: when people see an opportunity to help or get involved, they do it in a big way.

Thank you, Mayor Young, for your years of service to Camden and for continuing to invest your time and leadership in the future of our business community and region.

Honoring Those Who Served

The Camden Regional Chamber is proud to help spread the word about the 14th Annual Ouachita County Veterans and Patriots Awareness & Appreciation Event, celebrating our nation's 250th anniversary!

📅 Thursday, September 10, 2026
⏰ 6:00–8:00 p.m.
📍 Cullendale First Baptist Church

This special evening is dedicated to honoring U.S. military veterans and active-duty service members, with free admission for them and one guest.

The evening will include great food, a photo booth, National Guard vehicle and weapons displays, thousands of dollars in door prizes, and guest speaker Lt. Colonel W.B. Phillips II.

Please help us spread the word and make sure the veterans and active-duty service members throughout our community know about this special evening of appreciation.

🌟 Chamber Board Member Spotlight: John Schaffitzel 🌟

This week's Board Member Spotlight features John Schaffitzel, President of Highland Industrial Park and President of the Camden Regional Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.

John has played an important leadership role in the work underway to rebuild and strengthen the Chamber, with a focus on creating an organization that brings people together, builds partnerships, and serves the broader Camden region.

For John, being regional isn't simply about geography. It's about recognizing that our businesses, schools, industries, communities, workforce, and economic opportunities are interconnected.

“The future of our region isn't built by one city or one organization. It's built by people working together.”

That philosophy is helping shape the Chamber's renewed direction: becoming a convener where businesses, educators, economic development partners, government and community leaders can come together around opportunities that benefit the entire region.

And John's approach to the Chamber's rebuilding effort is pretty straightforward:

“We don't need to duplicate the good work already happening in our communities. We need to connect it, support it, and find the places where working together can make us stronger.”

As the Chamber continues this next chapter, John's vision is focused not simply on rebuilding an organization, but on building something useful; an active, collaborative Chamber that creates connections, supports businesses, and helps turn regional opportunities into action.

Building a Chamber. Building a Region.

There was a lot to celebrate at Monday's State of the Chamber Luncheon, but one of the things we're most proud of was seeing just how regional the room had become.

Economic development professionals representing Camden, El Dorado/Union County, Magnolia/Columbia County, Nashville/Howard County, and De Queen/Sevier County joined business, industry, education, government, and community leaders for the luncheon.

That matters!

The Camden Regional Chamber of Commerce is working to build an organization that looks beyond city and county lines and recognizes something we believe strongly: when South Arkansas communities succeed, our entire region becomes stronger.

Rebuilding a Chamber doesn't happen overnight, and it certainly doesn't happen because of one person. It takes a Board willing to roll up its sleeves, volunteers willing to help, organizations willing to partner, and a community willing to believe that something stronger can be built together.

Monday's turnout was an encouraging reminder that we're headed in the right direction.

To everyone who attended, partnered, volunteered, sponsored, traveled from across the region, or simply said, “How can I help?” we say THANK YOU!

We're just getting started.
