Edline was born to two parents with mental illness. Edline and her two older siblings were left to live with their grandpa, who was blind. One Christmas, a cousin came to visit and ended up bringing the children to the orphanage. After lots of back and forth trying to convince the cousin to take them with her, we took them in. Why? The cousin didn't know their ages or names! When she left them at the gate with me, she looked at me and said, "This is your mom now."
