We had some extra hands (and a lot of measuring tape) at the food bank today!
Senior Civil Engineering students from Slippery Rock University are taking on our food pantry and warehouse as their capstone design project. This semester they are documenting the building exactly as it stands: measuring every room and drawing up the existing floor plans. Next comes the fun part, figuring out how the space could work better for the neighbors we serve.
This is part of SRU’s Academic Community Engagement (ACE) program, which pairs college courses with local organizations so students learn by doing real work for their community. We get engineering talent we could never afford, and they get a real client with real problems to solve.
Thank you to Dr. Ruby Jazaei and her students for choosing us, and to the SRU Center for Community Engagement for bringing us together. We can’t wait to see what you come up with!
