⛳ Meet Coach Azeem ⛳

What started as curiosity quickly became something much more for Coach Azeem — a love for golf, its rich history, and the challenge that comes with learning, growing, and putting in the work to reach your goals.

That same mindset is what he brings to First Tee.

Coach Azeem has a calm and genuine presence that helps kids feel encouraged, supported, and confident enough to keep learning. It’s special to watch them hang on his every word — or glance back after a swing, already knowing guidance, encouragement, and support will be there.

Beyond First Tee, Azeem is an entrepreneur, husband to his beautiful wife Samantha, proud dad to baby Zane, and overall someone who brings the same dedication to life that he values in golf.

We’re grateful he chose to share his love for the game with our First Tee family and for the impact he’s making both on and off the course. 💚

⛳💚 COACH SPOTLIGHT: Coach Joi 💚⛳

Some coaches teach golf.
Some coaches LIVE golf.

Coach Joi has been doing both for more than 36 years.

She started playing at just 7 years old,
became a junior instructor at 14,
was the only girl on her high school golf team, and went on to attend Jackson State University on a full golf scholarship.

And if that wasn't cool enough… she was even featured in Golf Digest in 1993! ⛳📖

But what makes Coach Joi so special to us goes far beyond her golf résumé.

This spring was her first official season coaching with First Tee Greater Tyler, but teaching golf has always been close to her heart.

When asked what she loves most about working with our kids, her answer said it all:

💚 All the high fives, hugs, and smiles when they make a putt or hit a good shot.

Coach Joi — thank you for sharing your experience, encouragement, and joy with our golfers. We are so grateful you chose to be part of our First Tee family.

💚⛳ FIRST TEE WEEK | DEAR COACH: Meet Coach Darrell

This week, we’re celebrating the incredible coaches who help shape our First Tee kids both on and off the course.

And it feels only fitting to begin with one of our First Tee veterans — Coach Darrell.

40+ years in golf.
25 years at Oak Hurst.
PGA Life Member.

But Coach Darrell will tell you his greatest reward isn’t found in titles.

It’s the smiles.

"The look on their faces when they first hit a solid golf shot or make a good putt."

And perhaps most meaningful of all — seeing the game come full circle when former junior golfers return years later with children of their own.

We are incredibly humbled that even in retirement, Coach Darrell still chooses to spend his time volunteering with First Tee — not for recognition, but simply because he loves the game, believes in the lessons it teaches, and is passionate about passing those fundamentals on to future generations.

Today, you might find Coach Darrell on the range working on long drives, helping young golfers sharpen their short game, or even spinning cotton candy at a First Tee event. No matter where he is, he brings a quiet presence that speaks volumes — knowledge, confidence, humility, and steady encouragement, often paired with the faintest smile.

That kind of impact can’t be measured on a scorecard.

Coach Darrell, thank you for the generations of golfers and Game Changers you’ve helped shape. First Tee Greater Tyler is blessed to have you on our team. 💚⛳

Water battles, water golf, and some of our favorite people ☀️⛳💦

We loved getting to slow down and simply spend time with our First Tee kids and families at our Summer Kick-Off Party. So much of our season is spent teaching, learning, and moving from activity to activity, so having a chance to just laugh, play, and be together meant a lot to us.

It was also a special moment to pause and celebrate our coaches and let them know just how appreciated they are. The time, energy, and heart they pour into First Tee Greater Tyler does not go unnoticed.

Thanks for helping us kick off summer with a lot of fun and a lot of heart 🫶

We had a BLAST at May’s Flight Club thanks to McDonald's

McDonald's brought the heat with dinner and some cool swag for our teens! During the Launch Lab presented by Tyler Golf, the group worked on flighting the ball down, enjoyed some McDonalds, then finished by learning how to flight it up. So much fun and great skill-building!

⛳ Hey Jacksonville kids & teens, want to play a little golf this summer on this beautiful East Texas green?

We’re excited to officially open registration for our Jacksonville summer session at Cherokee Ranch Golf Club.

Huge thanks to the awesome coaches and volunteers helping make this summer program happen in this location again this year!

Whether your child is brand new to golf or already loves the game, this is a great place to learn, have fun, build confidence, and make friends along the way.

🏌️ Ages 7–13
📍 Thursdays starting June 25 - July 30, 5:30 - 7 PM
📍 Ranch Golf Club | Jacksonville, TX

We’ll also have camps and programs running all summer long at our Oak Hurst Golf-Course location in Bullard.
