Today, we were all very tired and very sore, but thankful to be able to reopen to help pets in need. And that’s just what we did. These four puppies came in from a lady who had been trying her best to keep them fed. A mama dog was dumped and came up to her home to have puppies. She did her best to buy two bags of food every two weeks for them, but she couldn’t afford more food or vet care. The puppies are all very very thin, wormy, and covered in fleas. But we were able to quickly take care of their major issues, as well as fill them up with cans of high protein wet food. The smallest, sickliest puppy was so weak she wouldn’t eat and had to be hand fed. She definitely wouldn’t have made it another day. But now all four are safe, vetted and have full tummies. And we are so thankful that we were able to be where we were needed after the storm.

We would like to thank all the companies, volunteers, and staff (especially those that came in on off days to help) for getting our rescue back up and running so quickly. Everything isn’t perfect but it is workable until we can get things fixed.

Mama Toffee’s eight sweethearts turned four weeks old ❤️ She is such an amazing mom and her puppies are absolute chunks! Today, they received their first vaccines, deworming, and coccidia preventative. Mama Toffee received her Nexguard Plus to make sure she is free of fleas, ticks and heartworms. Today was just a small part of making sure our rescue babies grow into healthy, happy pups 🐾 Aren’t they just adorable?!

As of 5 pm, our rescue center remains without power. There are thousands of people in our area still currently without power due to the hurricane last night and crews are working as fast as they can to restore power to homes and businesses. Thankfully today has been a cool windy day and our rescue pets have all remained happy and comfortable. As a reminder, we will be closed tomorrow also for clean up. If power is not restored tomorrow, we will continue to update on when we will be able to reopen.

We pray for the safety of all the lineman out working hard to restore power. We appreciate all of you and value your safety above all else ❤️ If you are like us and still do not have power, please be patient and kind. There are so many trees and power poles down that it is taking time to get to everyone.

CLOSED : Our rescue center will be closed today (10/10) and tomorrow (10/11) for storm damage. We are also currently out of power and there are poles snapped around us so we are not sure when we will be up and running. We have trees down, limbs down, kennel damage, and flooding issues to deal with. All of our rescue pets are safe and we are fully staffed plus volunteers helping with clean up. If you can, please stay at home and stay safe.

Hurricane Update : Our rescue center still has power and we do not currently have any trees down. We are supposed to be in the red zone from 8:30 pm until midnight, when the worst of the storm will pass through. We will be continuously monitoring the rescue throughout the night. For now, sweet puppy dreams ❤️

We ended the night watching a brilliant sunset ❤️ For the last 10 hours, our staff and volunteers have dug trenches, packed shavings, tarped, and picked up anything that could fly away in the wind. The hurricanes path moved eastward earlier today, putting our rescue center in the Tropical Storm Warning area. We are hoping it moves back westward during the night. But for today, we have a good hold on being ready - and our pups don’t know the difference. They just know that there has been a lot more going on today than usual but they have enjoyed the cooler weather and playing hard. We are signing off tonight - as there are many more things to do tomorrow before the storm comes through tomorrow night. Thank you to everyone who donated today. We are still about $400 from our goal and we still have more to purchase tomorrow. Please continue to share and help if you can.

DONATIONS NEEDED : Just days ago, we got slammed by unexpected storms during the night. Now we are facing tropical storms winds and rain in the late night Friday/early morning Saturday. So much of our rescue flooded, including two buildings, earlier this week. Today, we are starting to prep. We just purchased one pallet of pine shavings and will need two more to soak up as much water and mud as possible from the storm. We also need to purchase more sand bags to divert the water from the buildings. Our county is unfortunately at elevated risk for both flooding and tornados so we are doing our best to get the hundreds of animals in our care ready for the storm.

We have contractors coming to give estimates to fix the issues we are having with drainage but they didn’t have time to come since it’s only been days since we flooded 😭
