In Trujillo’s Dominican Republic Yaneliz is raised to be a “good girl,” but when she gives into her dream of becoming the first luchadora (female wrestler) in a family of luchadores (male wrestlers), she will come to understand that “la lucha” is not just for the ring. As the age-old battles of men versus women, parents versus children, and might versus right step into the ring, who will be the victor and who will be unmasked?

🔹Healing Room Tour🔸
A look at our Healing Room Tour at Riseboro Roundtable Older Adult Center 🎨
A day of healing art and resource sharing with the community of seniors there, along with the clinical team from Mount Sinai Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center, Dr. Mari Umpierre, and Luve Montilla. Thank you to Joaquin Esquilin for leading the dance workshop and Gia Gutierrez for leading the therapeutic art workshop.

Shout out to Ninoska Medrano and Mildred Santos for letting us bring this experience to the seniors of your center and our funders who make all these events possible🧡

🔹Intern Shoutout🔸
Our Development manager was supported by UCLA intern, Alexis Muchnik, who ended her internship with us last month!

"I had a great time working with OYE and I learned a lot about the grant application process for nonprofits. This internship really gave me the opportunity to feel like I made an impact, while learning all about OYE and the work that they do. I got to learn about the history of OYE as well as their huge impact, so I felt like the work I did was really meaningful."

Thank you to our board member, Amber West, for helping us connect with students at part of the Professional Writing minor there, to have them experience hands-on-work in the nonprofit sector for the past few years now🙌🏽
