Last week, Second Harvest Heartland packed food boxes on the Capitol lawn for our second annual “Pack the Capitol” event. Joined by hunger relief organizations like Channel One Regional Food Bank and PROP - People Reaching Out to People Food Shelf as well as lawmakers and their staff, our volunteers helped pack more than 800 food boxes to raise awareness about the acute need for state investment in food banks and food shelves amid record demand.
Discussing the state of hunger in Minnesota, Rick, one of our selfless volunteers, said it best: “A lot of legislators need to know what’s happening in our state.”
We’re thankful to those legislators at the Capitol who have continued to show up and lend their support, including our bipartisan bill authors Sen. Liz Boldon (DFL-25) and Rep. Steve Gander (R-01B), and Senate Minority Leader Mark Johnson (R-01), Sen. Amanda Hemmingsen-Jaeger (DFL-47), Sen. Aric Putnam (DFL-14), Rep. Andrew Myers (R-45A), and Rep. Cal Warwas (R-07B). All of them highlighted how we can only end hunger by working together.
With just a few days left in the 2026 legislative session, we need your help to end hunger too! By taking a moment to message your lawmakers right now to ask for their support for hunger-relief funding, you’ll help ensure that the 1 in 5 Minnesota families who cannot afford groceries remain top of mind.
