🌺 Meet Pōmaikaʻi 🌺

Mana Kai Water Sports Association is proud to introduce one of our new OC2s, named Pōmaikaʻi,

In Hawaiian, Pōmaikaʻi means blessed, good fortune, or good luck. It reflects prosperity, happiness, gratitude, and being among the favored. As we launch this canoe into the water, we do so with appreciation for the people, opportunities, and community that have helped bring Mana Kai to life.

During this inaugural 4-mile trek around Burlington Island, the natural world stopped by to offer its own welcome. Two bald eagles soared overhead along our route, and a blue heron announced its presence with a loud squawk from the shoreline—as if the universe itself was saying, “Aloha, Pōmaikaʻi.”

May Pōmaikaʻi carry us safely on every journey, challenge us to grow stronger with every stroke, and remind us that the greatest blessings are often found on the water, shared with others.

Please join us in welcoming Pōmaikaʻi to the Mana Kai ʻohana. 🌊🤙

The Friday night Ohana Paddle was successfully captured by Anchor Yacht Club's Jason Jackman. On a sweltering afternoon, our female paddlers took advantage of the favorable weather conditions.

Following a winter marked by prolonged periods of indoor training due to inclement weather, the opportunity to be on the water was particularly welcome.

What a blessing. 🌊🌊🌊

Ohana Friday on the Delaware 🌊🤙: Eleven kilometers. Nearly 3,000 strokes. One spec canoe.

Mana Kai’s Friday night ʻohana paddle took us 7 miles up the Delaware River and back, chasing the evening light and putting in the work. No race numbers or finish line, but a wealth of steady strokes, shared effort, and stronger paddlers. The river gave us calm stretches, moving water, a rising moon, and another reminder of why we keep coming back.

A huge mahalo to our friends at Anchor Yacht Club for capturing these incredible photos from shore. It’s not often we get to see ourselves from the outside, and these shots tell the story better than words ever could.

Every paddle makes us stronger.
Every mile builds the crew.
Every Friday feels a little more like home.

Chesapeake Bay Training Day: Road trip to Kent Island, MD to work out with 14 other bad-ass paddlers from KIOCC for a six-mile session on the Chesapeake Bay. The weather delivered exactly what a paddler could hope for—steady wind, fun waves, and conditions that demanded focus and effort.

Jess Kennedy gave us a challenging workout featuring pyramid intervals: 2 minutes on, 3 minutes on, 5 minutes on, 7 minutes on, then back down through 5, 3, and 2 minutes, with active paddling recovery between efforts. Every interval was a chance to work on power, technique, and maintaining form under fatigue.

The Bay kept us honest with wind, chop, and enough bumps to make the work both challenging and rewarding.

And because paddlers apparently don’t know when to quit, we finished with a few one-minute pieces “just for fun”—the kind of fun that leaves everyone breathing hard and smiling afterward.

6 miles. 2,716 strokes. Wind, waves, hard work, and a great evening on the Chesapeake.

Mahalo to Kent Island Outrigger Canoe Club for welcoming me and sharing a fantastic training session. Can’t wait to do it again.
