As Hispanic Heritage Month approaches, Latinas Unidas is excited to share the wonderful Hispanic/Latino Heritage & Culture programming being offered by our community partners at WXXI!

Throughout the season, WXXI is highlighting Latino stories, culture, history, music and voices through television, radio, film, educational resources and on-demand programming. There is something for individuals and families to enjoy and learn from.

We are grateful for our partnership with WXXI and look forward to continuing our collaboration, including our upcoming **Nuestra Cultura, Nuestra Salud – Three Kings celebration in January 2027**.

In the meantime, we encourage our community to explore WXXI’s Hispanic Heritage lineup and celebrate the richness of nuestra cultura! 🇵🇷🇲🇽🇩🇴🇨🇺🇨🇴🇪🇨 and beyond.

Today, Latinas Unidas had the pleasure of welcoming five wonderful new members to our growing sisterhood! 🤍✨

Representing Mexico, Colombia, and Peru, these dynamic professional Latinas bring fresh energy, diverse experiences, meaningful ideas, and a genuine desire to connect, contribute, and grow together.

Our President and Secretary enjoyed spending time getting to know them and sharing more about the heart of Latinas Unidas — creating a space where Latina women can build meaningful relationships, support one another, develop as leaders, and make an impact in our community.

We are excited about the continued growth of our sisterhood across cultures, generations, professions, and experiences.

We didn’t want National Latina Day to pass without recognizing some very special Latinas in our own community.

These women are caregivers—giving so much of themselves each day to care for the people they love, often without the recognition they deserve.

Latinas Unidas proudly congratulates Nydia Padilla Rodriguez on this well-deserved recognition honoring 45 years of leadership, cultural preservation, youth development, and service to our Rochester community through Borinquen Dance Theatre. ¡Felicidades, Nydia, and thank you for your extraordinary legacy! 🇵🇷❤️

Big surprise at the Puerto Rican Festival of Rochester, Inc. last night!

We were completely surprised when a joint proclamation was presented recognizing my wife, Nydia Padilla Rodriguez, for her 45 years of leadership through Borinquen Dance Theatre and her contributions to our community.

The proclamation was presented by Monroe County Legislature President Yversha Román, joined by members of the County Legislature, and Rochester City Council President Miguel Meléndez, along with members of City Council. It was a beautiful and humbling moment.

Many people may not know that for most of its 45-year history, Borinquen Dance Theatre has been much more than a dance company. For approximately 35 of those years, it has served as a youth development program through the performing Arts, helping young people build confidence, discipline, character, cultural pride, and the capacity to succeed as adults.

Nydia and I have had the privilege of witnessing that transformation firsthand. Watching generations of young people grow into strong adults has been one of the greatest joys of this work.

Thank you to the Monroe County Legislature, the Rochester City Council, and the Puerto Rican Festival of Rochester for recognizing Nydia's lifetime of service. It was a deeply meaningful moment—one we will never forget.

Congratulations, Nydia. I couldn't be more proud of you.
