THE WOMEN BEHIND OUR MISSION
Las Mujeres que Impulsan Nuestra Misión

Today, we proudly recognize Daisy Rivera-Algarin, Co-Founder & Secretary of Latinas Unidas.

As a co-founder, Daisy helped lay the foundation for an organization dedicated to empowering Latinas, strengthening connections, and creating opportunities for women in our community.

Her continued service reflects a commitment to the mission she helped establish and the importance of ensuring that every woman’s voice has a place.

The words of Malala Yousafzai featured in this tribute remind us that true leadership is not simply about raising our own voices, but helping others be heard.

Gracias, Daisy, for your dedication, your leadership, and for being one of the women who helped turn a vision into a lasting mission.

THE WOMEN BEHIND OUR MISSION
Las Mujeres que Impulsan Nuestra Misión

Today, we proudly spotlight Dr. Wendy M. Vera, Latina Emprendedora Co-Chair, as part of our series celebrating the women whose leadership and service strengthen Latinas Unidas.

Through her commitment to supporting Latina entrepreneurship and empowering women, Dr. Vera contributes to creating opportunities for connection, growth, and leadership within our community.

Her chosen reflection from Psalm 46:5 speaks to faith, strength, and perseverance — a meaningful reminder of the courage and resilience women bring to their leadership journeys.

THE WOMEN BEHIND OUR MISSION
Las Mujeres que Impulsan Nuestra Misión

As Hispanic Heritage Month comes to a close, our celebration of women’s leadership, service, and contributions continues!

At Latinas Unidas, our mission is strengthened by extraordinary women who generously share their time, talents, experience, and passion for empowering others.

Over the coming weeks, we’re excited to introduce you to the women behind our mission — our Board of Directors, committee members, and dedicated volunteers.

Through their photographs and personal reflections on leadership, you’ll have an opportunity to get to know the women whose dedication and commitment help move Latinas Unidas forward.

Today, we proudly launch our series featuring Raquel Singletary, President and Chair of Latinas Unidas, whose reflection reminds us that leadership is not simply about having a seat at the table, but about strengthening it for those who come after us.

Because behind every strong mission are women who lead with purpose and serve with heart.

And this is just the beginning!

Strengthening Our Leadership, Strengthening Our Mission

This morning, the Latinas Unidas Executive Leadership Team came together for a meaningful retreat focused on reflection, thoughtful conversations, and our shared responsibility to the organization and the community we serve.

We were honored to have Angelica Perez-Delgado, President & CEO of Ibero-American Action League, join us virtually for an insightful presentation on “Familismo and Accountability: Leading with Heart and Responsibility.”

Thank you, Angelica, for generously sharing your time, wisdom, and perspective with us. Your presentation encouraged meaningful reflection and conversations about our roles as leaders and the responsibility we share in caring for the future of Latinas Unidas.

Our heartfelt appreciation also goes to Krystle Ellis, Executive Director of the Women’s Foundation of Genesee Valley, for graciously hosting our retreat and providing such a warm, welcoming, and professional space for us to gather and work together.

We are grateful for these valued community relationships and for the incredible women who dedicate their time, talents, and leadership to Latinas Unidas.

As we continue growing and learning together, we recognize that strengthening our leadership also strengthens our ability to serve our members, support one another, and create meaningful opportunities within our community.

To our members: Stay tuned for more information about our upcoming Annual Membership Meeting in November. We look forward to reconnecting with you and sharing important organizational updates.

Together, we continue moving forward with purpose, commitment, and a shared love for the mission of Latinas Unidas.

What an incredible afternoon at the YWCA of Rochester & Monroe County’s 20th Annual Empowering Women Luncheon!

On behalf of Latinas Unidas, congratulations to Dr. Myra Henry, President & CEO, and the entire YWCA team on an outstanding event and this remarkable milestone!

It was wonderful to see more than 1,500 attendees representing businesses, nonprofit organizations, community leaders, and partners gathered in support of the YWCA’s mission to eliminate racism, empower women, and strengthen families throughout our community.

A highlight of the afternoon was the engaging fireside conversation between Dr. Henry and Venus Williams, tennis champion, entrepreneur, and advocate for equality. Venus shared meaningful reflections on growth, reinvention, family, and entrepreneurship, reminding us that continuing to evolve is an important part of life.

“Reinventing yourself is a must for everyone.” — Venus Williams

It was also a wonderful opportunity to spend time with some of our Latinas and hermanas, reconnect with longtime friends and community partners, and meet new faces. We always appreciate opportunities to strengthen relationships and celebrate the people and organizations making a difference in our community.

A special shout-out to Norma Holland, who was among those selected to ask Venus Williams a question during the closing Q&A! We were especially proud to see her participate in that memorable moment!

Thank you again to Dr. Henry and the YWCA team for your leadership, dedication, and continued impact in our community.

Congratulations on 20 years of Empowering Women!

Serving Strength. Building Futures.
