At last Tuesday's meeting, Scott Griffith introduced Roger Myers, President of the Brighton School Board of Education with Jennifer Marks, Vice President, and Katie Tierney, Treasurer.

Roger gave an overview of a number of aspects of the district. He shared recent academic test scores in grades 3 through 11. Brighton is one of 11 top traditional public schools in the state and ranks in the top half of those districts in the most tested academic categories.

Brighton offers many advanced placement classes that allow students the opportunity to earn college credit at the high school level. Over 40% of high school students take at least one AP Class. The district also offers a number of career technology classes as well as Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics Classes (S.T.E.A.M.) at all grade levels.

Recent additions to the facilities include an indoor practice facility, labs that support the S.T.E.A.M. classes and a new health occupations lab.

Financially, the district carries a fund balance of 17% and has maintained a surplus budget since 2014. The district's current bond millage rate is at 2.73%, the lowest in the county and one of the lowest in the state.
