No child should ever be alone on their journey. 🕊️

The Promise of Hope Foundation invites our community to come together this Friday to honor and remember two precious babies—Baby Moore and Baby Reyes—who left this world far too soon.

Though their families cannot be present, we refuse to let them be laid to rest alone. Every single life matters, and these sweet babies deserve to be surrounded by the love, care, and dignity of a community that remembers them. Please join us to stand in prayer, reflection, and remembrance.

Today, we pause to honor and remember Detective Carmine Macchia of the First Precinct, who made the ultimate sacrifice on this day in 1978.

Late in the evening of June 14, 1978, Detective Macchia and his partner bravely stepped up to assist in the pursuit of a stolen vehicle. Tragically, their unmarked unit was involved in a severe multi-vehicle collision at the intersection of Straight Path and Sunrise Highway in Lindenhurst.

Despite the heroic efforts of first responders and medical staff, Detective Macchia succumbed to his injuries in the early morning hours of June 15, 1978. He left behind a loving wife, a dedicated department, and a community forever changed by his loss.

Decades may pass, but Detective Macchia’s legacy of bravery, dedication, and selflessness will never fade. Today, we continue to hold his family and his brothers and sisters in blue in our thoughts.

We are incredibly proud to partner with the Matt Martin Foundation to welcome Gillies, a 17-month-old English Labrador, as the official new therapy dog for the Sag Harbor Village Police Department!

Even in quiet, close-knit communities, our first responders face immense stress and trauma on the job. Gillies is here to change the energy in the room—supporting officer mental health, offering a comforting paw after tough shifts, and breaking down barriers to connect directly with the community. As his handler, Sgt. Kelly Anderson, beautifully put it: “People see the dog and not the uniform.”

A massive thank you to everyone who made this collaboration possible, including the Matt Martin Foundation, Dr. Teri Meekins, and the Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation for donating his veterinary care.

Welcome to the team, Gillies!

On this Memorial Day, we look out across our Suffolk County communities—from our neighborhoods to our shores—and remember that our peace and freedom were bought at the highest price. 🇺🇸

The Suffolk County Police Foundation honors the memory of the courageous servicemen and women who gave their lives for our country. We also recognize the profound intersection of military and law enforcement service, honoring those within our own ranks who have served both on the global stage and on the home front.

As you spend today with family and friends, please join us in taking a moment to pause, reflect, and say a prayer of gratitude for the heroes who never made it home.
