An evening on the water for a great cause!

We’re extending a huge thank you to Board Member Rich Steinberg of Nationwide Mortgage, and his wife, Lauren, for hosting a beautiful cocktail party aboard their yacht at the Sag Harbor Yacht Club.

It was the perfect setting to connect our current board members with prospective supporters, sharing our mission and expanding our network of local leaders dedicated to public safety in Suffolk County.

Honored to join Rabbi Marc Schneier and The Hampton Synagogue for a powerful Shabbat of Appreciation!

The Suffolk County Police Foundation was there to build real, meaningful bridges between law enforcement leadership and the Jewish community—fostering direct dialogue, security collaboration, and mutual trust across Suffolk County.

Alongside Sheriff Dr. Errol Toulon, Deputy Commissioner Tom Galati, Chief William Doherty, Deputy Commissioner Belinda Alvarez-Groneman, and Westhampton Beach Chief Steven McManus, we reaffirmed our unwavering commitment to protecting and supporting our local congregations.

Chief Doherty’s moving remarks deeply resonated across the synagogue, highlighting how vital these proactive safety partnerships are to keeping our neighborhoods secure. We look forward to turning this mutual support into lasting, impactful initiatives.

On August 14, 1977, we remember Police Officer Ralph Sorli, who made the ultimate sacrifice while off duty.

After hearing an alarm at a service station near his home, Officer Sorli responded to investigate. He discovered a broken window and immediately notified police, remaining at the scene until officers and the owner arrived.

At approximately 2:00 a.m., while crossing Route 25A after leaving the scene, Officer Sorli was struck and killed by a vehicle. The driver left the scene but later turned himself in at the Sixth Precinct.

Officer Sorli was survived by his wife and three children.

Today, we honor his courage, his commitment to helping others, and his service to the Suffolk County community.

Today, we remember Detective Lieutenant Joseph Hawkins, Commanding Officer of the Third Squad Detectives.

While attending the New York State Chiefs of Police Conference in Lockport, Detective Lieutenant Hawkins suffered a stroke during a field demonstration. He was transported to Mount Saint Mary’s Hospital, where he remained until his passing on August 13, 1972.

Detective Lieutenant Hawkins is remembered for his service and dedication to the Suffolk County Police Department. He was survived by his wife and two children.

Today, we honor his memory and remember the sacrifice he made in service to our community.

A huge thank you to our Suffolk County Police Foundation Board Members, Matt Riss and Mark Ciaburri of Redefine Meals, for the tour of your upcoming production facility in Bay Shore!

We’re grateful to Inspector Mike Kelly, Deputy Inspector Eric D’Agostino, and Officer Wright from the 3rd Precinct for checking in on the facility and addressing security concerns. This visit highlights the strong partnerships between SCPF, our Board Members, and the Suffolk County Police Department in supporting local businesses and ensuring community safety.

Today, we honor the memory of Sergeant Henck, who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

On July 31, 1995, while supervising the pursuit of a burglary suspect on the Long Island Expressway, Sergeant Henck placed the safety of fellow officers and the public above his own. During the pursuit, his patrol vehicle was intentionally struck multiple times, causing a devastating crash. Despite the efforts of responding officers and medical personnel, Sergeant Henck succumbed to his injuries on August 6, 1995.

Sergeant Henck’s courage, leadership, and unwavering commitment to protecting others will never be forgotten. He is survived by his wife and daughter, and his legacy lives on through all who continue to serve.
