Following the heartbreaking loss of two Suffolk County Police Department officers last month, the importance of mental health resources and support within law enforcement cannot be overstated.

Initiatives like the SCPD’s therapy dog program, featuring Hamilton, the department’s first therapy dog, are an important reminder that support can come in many forms. From providing comfort during difficult moments to helping create a culture where seeking support is encouraged, these efforts matter.

At the Suffolk County Police Foundation, we believe supporting those who protect our communities also means prioritizing their well-being.

As we approach our 3rd Annual Gala on November 10, we’re reminded of the importance of continuing to invest in the people behind the badge. Because those who serve deserve to be supported, too.

Proceeds from the gala support the Foundation’s mission to provide meaningful resources, assistance and support to Suffolk County law enforcement and the communities they serve.

We had a great conversation about the Foundation, our upcoming Gala, and the many projects and accomplishments made possible by the generosity of our Board Members and supporters.

🎤 We are proud to announce our 2026 Gala Keynote Speaker: Suffolk County Detective Matias Ferreira!

A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, wounded warrior, and history-making police officer, Matias Ferreira’s story is one of extraordinary courage, resilience, and dedication to service.
After losing both legs while serving in Afghanistan in 2011, Matias refused to let adversity define his future. In 2017, he made history as the nation’s first active-duty double-amputee police officer when he joined the Suffolk County Police Department.

From serving his country overseas to protecting our communities here at home, Matias embodies the true meaning of perseverance and service.

Guided by his motto, “Life without limbs is limitless,” his journey is a powerful reminder that determination knows no bounds.

We are honored to welcome Matias as our keynote speaker at the Suffolk County Police Foundation’s 3rd Annual Gala on November 10 at the Long Island Aquarium.

We look forward to an unforgettable evening celebrating those who serve and the incredible impact they make on our community.

Happy Birthday to one of our own!

Please join us in wishing Suffolk County Police Foundation Board Member Rory Bulovas a very happy birthday!

Rory is a familiar face at so many of our events, always showing up, lending a hand and going above and beyond to support the Foundation and our mission. We’re incredibly grateful for the time, energy and heart he brings to everything we do.

Happy Birthday, Rory! We hope you have a great day — and thank you for always being there for the SCPD Foundation!

Today, we honor the life and legacy of Sergeant Reichardt, who dedicated 29 years to serving and protecting others.

On September 11, 2001, Sergeant Reichardt responded to Ground Zero as a member of the Emergency Service Section and bomb technician. He later spent three months searching through debris at the Fresh Kills landfill as part of the recovery effort.

Years later, Sergeant Reichardt was diagnosed with cancer related to his service in the aftermath of 9/11.

We remember Sergeant Reichardt for his courage, dedication and sacrifice, and we keep his family in our thoughts.

His service will never be forgotten.

Lou’s dedication to the Suffolk County Police Foundation and his tireless support of the Suffolk County Police Department make a meaningful difference throughout Suffolk County. Congratulations, Lou, on this well-deserved honor and fitting recognition of all you do for our community!

We are deeply grateful to the Bolla Charity Foundation, CEO Harry Singh, and Kamljit Singh for their historic $1 million donation announced at their annual gala last night.

This transformative gift directly supports building the new Suffolk County Police Training Village in Westhampton—giving our officers state-of-the-art, scenario-based training to keep them and our communities safe.

Our co-founder and director, Lisa Tuozzolo, captured the true heart of our mission at the event:

“It’s one of my missions to make sure that every officer gets to go home to their families each and every night. It’s just so vitally important to make sure that our officers have state-of-the-art training... they are fully prepared as much as possible.”

What this means for our foundation: Gifts of this scale accelerate our ability to equip Suffolk County officers with cutting-edge resources and modern tactical training—ensuring every officer who puts on the badge receives the preparation needed to serve safely and return home every night.
