When you stop disowning your sons and daughters simply for being gay, we will no longer need Pride.
When you stop making your gay family members feel unwanted and unworthy of love, we will no longer need Pride.
When LGBTQ youth are no longer forced into homelessness due to family rejection, abuse and discrimination, we will no longer need Pride (30-40% of homeless youth are LGBTQ).
When you stop REPEATEDLY telling us how much God hates gay people, we will no longer need Pride.
When pastors stop obsessing over gay people and start cleaning up their own fu***ng house (because we're all getting tired of the s*x scandals and abuse headlines), we will no longer need Pride.
When gay youth stop taking their own lives after being bullied, rejected, and dehumanized, we will no longer need Pride.
When our representatives stop threatening to take away our rights, we will no longer need Pride.
When you stop clutching your pearls and feigning outrage over Pride Month while ignoring the damage done to generations of LGBTQ people, we will no longer need Pride.
Pride Month is a reminder to every LGBTQ person who has ever been rejected by family, shamed by religion, bullied by peers, or made to feel unworthy of love that they are not alone, that they are loved... and that they belong.
If you want Pride Month to end, stop giving people reasons to need it.
Until then, Happy Pride Month to all my LGBTQ brothers and sisters!
