Last night's meeting was an important opportunity to learn more about the Braintree override. Councilor Julia Flaherty, Town Council District 1 presented information from the Vote Yes Braintree campaign, and Councilor Peter Morin of District 6 answered questions about tax assessments and abatements. There is a lot of information available at the Vote Yes website linked below. Please also feel free to post questions here.
With regard to our organizing efforts, Michelle Maloney announced that we are forming a board, establishing by-laws, and registering with the state. We invite everyone to get involved in whatever capacity feels right. Current board members are Michelle Maloney (Chair), Rich Bielicki (Vice Chair), Elizabeth Maglio, Town Councilor (Recording Secretary), Jim Maloney, Jeannie Giangrande, Dawn Whitney (Treasurer), and Sarah Santoro, who has been facilitating our meetings.
In our meetings so far, we have generated lists of concerns as well as ideas and possibilities. There are big and small projects that we want to stay on top of. Sarah is going to be the point person for the Allen Street/Watson Place development, and Judy Goggin is going to be our point person for the Delorey baseball field reconstruction at Watson Park. There are many, many other issues that have been raised, from blighted property to missing stop signs; from Adams Park to Quincy Ave redevelopment; from air quality and the Fore River Basin. We invite everyone to participate in our meetings and get active on any of the many projects. Working together we can rebuild our community and restore and preserve the beauty of East Braintree.
