Better Housing Colorado (fka Boulder Housing Coalition) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit Community Housing Development Organization.

We've been creating affordable cooperative housing for Colorado's Front Range since 1996.

Ok, real talk: what’s the food actually like in a co-op? 👀

At BHC co-ops, all residents pool money for food. At The People’s Mansion, that’s $135/month for a fully stocked kitchen.

And it’s not random - we fill out food surveys, take turns grocery shopping, and yes… have some very real house discussions about what to food to buy!

But the result?
Delicious, healthy, abundant food, always there when you need it.

As low-income residents, for many of us have experienced food insecurity. There’s something deeply grounding about standing in a pantry stocked with bulk foods!

And it doesn’t stop there. We cook for each other four nights a week, rotating teams and sharing meals that reflect our different cultures, cravings, and creativity. We've an incredible kitchen that supports 20 of us!

It’s not just food. It’s care. It’s community. It’s coming home to a full kitchen and a table you don’t have to sit at alone.

Residents at BHC have access to several free live in person trainings throughout the year, building various cooperative skills. This year we're teaming with WhyRJ to offer limited scholarships for non-BHC residents to participate, alongside our residents, in a 3-part Restorative Mediation Certification. Come build real skills in navigating conflict, repairing harm, and showing up for your community when it matters most.
The first training starts June 20th 10am-4pm in Denver.

A legendary moment!
BHC residents and board gathered at 744 Marine - our first and oldest house - and by consensus renamed the co-op from Masala to Pando.
Why the change? Multiple residents felt that “Masala” was cultural appropriation, and wanted a name that felt more aligned.
Why Pando? It’s a massive aspen grove that’s actually one connected organism beneath the surface, like us. 🌳
Deep gratitude to everyone who’s stewarded this house over the years. This next chapter is rooted in you 💛

Last week we turned a taco bar into a tiny universe of shared ownership dreams 🌮✨

Big love to everyone who came out to our co-op happy hour at Locales Taco & Tequila Bar! The room was full of exactly the kind of conversations we like to hear: the co-op curious and the co-op obsessed coming together over chips, salsa, and tequila-fueled optimism to dream up how we can reimagine housing.🍹

Huge gratitude to Locales for hosting us and to our friends at Center for Community Wealth for teaming up with us to expand the conversation into worker cooperatives too.

We’re looking forward to teaming up with more Denver orgs and hosting co-op happy hours all across the city. If you’ve got a venue, a vision, or just a strong feeling that your community should be part of this… reach out. Let’s build the next one together!
