Geriatric Medicine is specialized care for seniors, with a focus on continuity of care and emphasizing wellness. Palliative Care is specialized, interdisciplinary medical care for people with serious illness. We focus on providing patients with relief from the symptoms, pain, and stress of a serious illness with the goal of improving quality of life for both the patient and family. Palliative Care

is appropriate at any age and at any stage in a serious illness, and can be provided together with curative treatment. The Geriatric Medicine Unit at MGH provides specialized, multidisciplinary care for seniors, emphasizing continuity of care, wellness promotion, and improvement of daily functioning. Both Palliative Care and Geriatric Care are provided by teams of doctors, nurses, and other specialists who collaborate with patients' other care providers across various health care settings.
