✨ Moderator Spotlight: Jeneé Osterheldt

Jeneé Osterheldt is a culture columnist who covers identity and social justice through the lens of culture and the arts. She centers Black lives and the lives of people of color. Sometimes this means writing about Beyoncé and Black womanhood or unpacking the importance of public art and representation. Sometimes this means taking systemic racism, sexism, and oppression to task. It always means Black lives matter. She joined the Globe in 2018. A native of Alexandria, VA, and a graduate of Norfolk State University, Osterheldt was a 2017 Nieman Fellow at Harvard, where her studies focused on the intersection of art and justice. She previously worked as a culture columnist for the Kansas City Star.

We look forward to hearing an inspiring panel discussion with our honorees, moderated by Jeneé, on Wednesday, September 16th at Fenway Park, and recognizing her leadership and commitment to expanding opportunity in our communities.

Happy Labor Day from the Urban League of Eastern Massachusetts!

Today, we honor the workers whose talent, determination, and dedication strengthen our communities and drive our economy forward.

As we celebrate, we are also reminded that the work toward economic equity continues. The latest U.S. employment report shows that 162,000 jobs were added, and overall unemployment remained at 4.1% while Black unemployment stands at 6.0%.

For more than a century, ULEM has fought to expand access to jobs, skills, fair wages, and economic opportunity. This Labor Day, we celebrate progress while recommitting ourselves to closing the remaining gaps.

Progress is real, but equity remains unfinished business.

Not Alms, But Opportunity.
