English for New Bostonians (ENB) is a nonprofit organization addressing the urgent need for increased English language learning opportunities for adult immigrants in Boston. Comprised of the City of Boston, foundations, corporations, non-profits, and community organizations, ENB works to support high-quality, accessible ESOL programs; to expand Boston’s capacity to serve English language learners;

to test new strategies to reach learners at home, in the community, and at work; to encourage new investment by diverse stakeholders; to heighten awareness about the importance of adult English language learning; and to support the development of a coordinated ESOL system in Boston. Our vision: Boston will be a welcoming city that offers immigrants the opportunity to learn English and integrate into all aspects of civic life. Through significant and coordinated investments by the public, private and non-profit sectors, adult English language learners will be able to learn English at home, at work, or in the community and fulfill their dreams and roles as citizens, community members, parents, workers, and entrepreneurs. The ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) system will offer flexibility; will take into account differing learning styles, formal education levels, and student goals; and will include evaluation and accountability measures to ensure program quality.

This past Saturday ENB hosted the 2026 Volunteer Appreciation event in partnership with Central Rock - Watertown!

We gathered volunteers that joined hands with ENB in a variety of roles and occasions, as ongoing tutors through the Allies for Immigrants program - a partnership with Boston Cares.

We are grateful for the chance to promote social connection and celebrate our volunteers through climbing and also for the dedication of our volunteers with new bostonians that are thriving in the community with their support! Language is social and volunteers are crucial to ENB's work!

To our community of volunteers: thank you for sharing your time and energy with our students across Boston! If you were not able to make it to this event, we hope to see you at our next one.

If you want to know more about ways you can volunteer, check out ENB's website — we can't wait to join hands with you!
