(MIRA), Massachusetts Voter Table, and Homes for All Massachusetts.

The next Governor of Massachusetts will make decisions that shape our neighborhoods, schools, workplaces, and homes. On Friday, September 18, we were proud to be part of the Immigrant Entrepreneur Resource Fair & Panel as part of Welcoming Week! 💙

Our ENB team, Thavy Hout and Iván Jusino, were at our resource table connecting with immigrant entrepreneurs and sharing information about ENB’s programs, including English for Immigrant Entrepreneurs (E4IE), which helps immigrant entrepreneurs build the English and business language skills they need to start or improve their businesses.

Thavy also joined the panel to share her own experience as a former participant in the E4IE program and aspirations as an immigrant entrepreneur.

Thank you to the Mayor's Office for Immigrant Advancement - Boston for creating this space for immigrant entrepreneurs to connect, learn, and share their stories. We’re grateful to be part of Welcoming Week and to celebrate the contributions and aspirations of immigrant entrepreneurs across our communities! 💙

Honoring the unyielding strength of my ancestors and immigrants today

Dear English for New Bostonians Community,

This Juneteenth, I find myself reflecting deeply on the profound meaning of this day—not just as a milestone in American history, but as a living testament to the enduring human spirit.

Juneteenth marks the day in 1865 when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to ensure all enslaved people were finally freed—a staggering two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation. It is a day that encapsulates both the painful delays of justice and the ultimate triumph of liberation.

As an African American woman leading English for New Bostonians’ advancement efforts, Juneteenth holds a deeply personal significance for me. It is a day to honor the resilience, faith, and unyielding strength of my ancestors who fought for a freedom they were long denied. But it is also a day that beautifully mirrors the very heart of what we do here at English for New Bostonians.

Juneteenth reminds us that freedom is not a static moment in time; it is an ongoing journey that requires access, equity, and community.

Today, that journey feels more urgent than ever. We are living in a moment of heightened xenophobia, where closing borders, treating our neighbors as second-class citizens, and forcing people to live in fear have become all too common. Yet, I see the unyielding spark of determination in our students. Immigrants, new and established, are navigating these hostile systems, learning a new language, and striving for dignity and mobility. Our classrooms are spaces where people from all over the world reclaim their voices and unlock their own paths to opportunity.

This Juneteenth, I invite you to join me, both in celebrating how far we have come and in recommitting to the work that still lies ahead.

Here is how you can take action today:

Support ENB: Invest in English language education to actively dismantle barriers and help our immigrant neighbors write their own chapters of independence.

Show Up locally: Attend a Juneteenth event in one of Boston's vibrant neighborhoods.

Buy Black-Owned: Intentionally support Black-owned businesses in your community.

Engage in Dialogue: Talk with your family about the ongoing struggle for all civil rights.

Thank you for being a vital part of our journey. Together, we are building a Boston where fear is replaced by belonging, every voice is heard, and every individual can thrive.
