Book Club - A Wrinkle in Time 📚🐣
Sunday, May 3rd - 1pm
Boston Public Library (Copley Square)
RSVP in bio

Join the Boston Smith College Club Book Club in May to discuss this classic by fellow Smithie Madeleine L’Engle (1941). A Wrinkle in Time tells the fantastical story of Meg, her little brother Charles Wallace, and their new friend Calvin, as they travel through space and time to rescue Meg and Charles’s father. L’Engle refers to fantasy as “what Erich Fromm calls the one universal language, the one and only language in the world that cuts across all barriers of time, place, race, and culture”, and “this is why we turn to them again and again when we are children, and still again when we have grown up” (from L’Engle’s Newbury Medal Acceptance Speech, August 1963)

Commonwealth Circus Center, aka C3, is a one-room circus school in Jamaica Plain, offering recreational classes, workshops, community events, and more for students of all ages and abilities. Jess Tin ‘17 is a coach and administrator at C3 (along with being a C3 student herself), and is excited to share her circus experience with BSCC! Join us on 12/6 for a private group lesson covering aerials and more (silks, trapeze, etc.) from 6:00-7:00pm, and/or an acro community night from 7:00-9:00pm.

6:00-7:00pm: Private Group Lesson - Mixed Aerials & More
A one-hour sampler of various aerial and ground disciplines, taught by Jess, exclusively for the BSCC community. In this beginner-level class, we’ll get to try out a variety of circusapparatus, including aerial fabric (aka silks), static trapeze, tightwire, and more! No experience necessary.
Limited to the first 6 RSVPs. This event is generously offered to BSCC by C3 & Jess free of charge.

7:00-9:00pm: Partner Acro Community Night
An evening of mini-lessons for brand new beginners and experienced folks alike. Partner Acro requires no equipment other than multiple people! Over the course of the night we’ll learn how to support our circus friends in balance, counter-balance, and lifts. Folks will have a chance to try out a variety of partner acro styles and then put it all together during the open jam at the end of the night. No partner is required to attend, and folks with all levels of experience are welcome.
This event is open to the public; sliding scale admission, $10-$30. Register directly through C3’s booking software, Amilia, here—if your intended ticket price shows as sold out, please email [email protected]! You are also welcome to walk in day-of; please arrive early to complete waivers and payment.
