Hearth, Inc. - ending elder homelessness

Hearth, Inc. - ending elder homelessness Hearth is dedicated to the elimination of homelessness among the elderly. We house, prevent, and/or stabilize housing for individuals over 50.

We manage 228 units of permanent supportive housing and an Outreach program, which helps over 250 elders each year to find and succeed in housing of their own. Recently we partnered with the Corporation for Supportive Housing to create a National Initiative to End Elder Homelessness.

Yesterday, Hearth clients gathered for one of our favorite traditions: Hearth's annual client luncheon, "Rise Up." Clients from Hearth's Housing, Outreach, Prevention and Stabilization programs attended. Guests bonded over lunch and tunes, shared their stories, and reflected on the past year. Together, we celebrated what's possible when compassion meets community.

Take a look! Public Library brought the books and the sunshine to Hearth's first Summer Book Fair event at our Four Corners location. Residents learned more about Boston Public Library programming, signed up for library cards, and got to browse for some new books. We're so thankful to our new friends at the South End Branch of the Boston Public Library for making reading accessible to our older adult residents. It's fundamental!

When someone moves into one of our buildings after years of being unhoused, the first thing many of them describe isn’t relief.

It’s being seen.

Our staff sees them. Their neighbors learn their name. People notice when they are quiet. They show up to the small daily things — coffee in the community room, a check-in in the hallway, a familiar face on a hard morning.

That is what the transition from invisibility to dignity actually looks like. And it doesn’t happen in a moment. It happens because we stay.

June is Kindling Club Month at Hearth, and we want to celebrate some of the people who make our work possible every single day: our monthly donors.

The Kindling Club is the steady, reliable core of our mission. When a resident needs support on a Tuesday in March, or a family is on the edge of losing their housing on a Friday in November, consistent funding is what keeps our team there. Month after month, Kindling Club members provide the kind of stability our residents can count on.

This June, we're honoring that commitment. And if you've been thinking about joining, now is a great time: everyone who signs up as a monthly donor this month will receive a Hearth insulated cooler bag as our thank-you. Join the Kindling Club today at hearth-home.org/donatetoday.

In her May CEO Corner, Hearth President and CEO Rhonda Pieroni writes about what it means to use our voice on behalf of older adults. This spring, that meant showing up at the Massachusetts State House for Older Adult Lobby Day, standing alongside partners at Hebrew Senior Life ahead of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day on June 12th, and learning that Hearth finished as the #1 fundraising partner across every Winter Walk city in the country. Advocacy is not separate from the housing work. It is how the housing work scales. Read the full message here: https://hearth-home.org/ceo-corner-your-voice-matters/

A huge thank you to Massachusetts for bringing the fun and the facts on Social Security to Anna Bissonnette House with a trivia event! Our residents had the opportunity to learn the ins and outs of Social Security Income, Supplemental Security Income, and much more. We’re so grateful to AARP for equipping our residents with the information they need to navigate these crucial programs. Knowledge is power!

Hearth is honored to have participated in Boston’s The Winter Walk this past March. In only our second year of participation, Hearth stood out as the event’s top fundraising partner nationwide. We extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who participated and supported Team Hearth. Thank you to our dedicated staff, board members, volunteers, donors, and partner organizations.

Winter Walk unites thousands in solidarity with neighbors experiencing homelessness. It is a privilege to be part of this mission. We also thank all participants for raising critical funds and awareness, and we look forward to walking alongside this incredible community in our shared goal to end homelessness.
