Give Black Alliance

Give Black Alliance Join us in our mission to inform, reform, and transform Black philanthropy.

Who We Are

Give Black® Alliance is a nonprofit that focuses on the power of Black philanthropy and the assets of the Black community. Through creating a strong alliance between funders, Black communities and philanthropists, and providing tools and resources to help individuals, foundations, and other giving organizations make informed grant-making decisions, we are enhancing philanthropy’s abili

ty to address the needs of Black communities. Mission

We aim to shift the narrative in philanthropy from a pervasive and damaging focus on deficits within the Black community to shining a light on the considerable potential and financial leverage to increase the assets in communities with the power of Black philanthropy. Our Strategy

Our theory of change rests on three tenets – our ability to inform, reform and transform philanthropy.

▪ INFORM - Giving Black® means educating the philanthropic community about issues that affect Black lives and the needs of Black children, families, and communities.

▪ REFORM - Giving Black® means developing strategies to reshape the current relationship between philanthropy and Blacks and develop new connections to strengthen the power of Black philanthropy.

▪ TRANSFORM - Giving Black® means creating tools, programs, and products to drive change through donors and institutions, and to facilitate and support communication between and among philanthropists, charities, service providers, and communities. Give Black® Alliance’s efforts will create a more inclusive philanthropic community with keener insights into our communities, priorities, and a new perspective on the power of Black philanthropy.

What does it mean to defend democracy when the systems meant to protect participation are being dismantled?

In a new essay, Give Black Alliance President & CEO Bithiah Carter examines the growing assault on voting rights, civic infrastructure, and democratic accountability following the 2026 Selma bridge crossing.

The Ballot and the Bridge asks what it will take to build systems that truly protect participation, representation, and community voice.

“The assault is not only on voting rights. It is on the civic infrastructure that makes the defense of voting rights possible.”

Now live: Episode 4 of Black T.

Raising a Black son requires more than care. It requires protection, preparation, and constant decision-making in a world that does not treat all children the same.

In this month’s Black T, we explore what it means to raise Black boys across generations—and what that responsibility looks like today.

Featuring Nicole Price, Betty Allen, and Gertrude Alaina Shaw, this conversation centers on a defining question: What does it take to raise a Black boy into a Black man today?

Raising a Black son has never been just about parenting.
It’s about protection, preparation, and navigating a world that doesn't treat all children equally.

Across generations, Black mothers have carried this responsibility—making decisions every day about safety, identity, and what their sons need to survive and thrive.
In this month’s Black T, Give Black Alliance brings together Nicole Price, Betty Allen, and Gertrude Alaina Shaw for a multi-generational conversation on what it takes to raise Black boys today.

This discussion centers on one defining question: What does it take to raise a Black boy into a Black man today?

Today, we honor Black mothers and mother figures whose Motherwork shapes families, strengthens communities, and carries generations forward.

Black mothers protect and fortify their children from the reach of racism, shielding them with love, wisdom, and fierce determination. They carry their children through every worry, every prayer, and every sleepless night. Motherwork is sacred, endless, and never done.

At Give Black Alliance, we celebrate the strength, care, and resilience Black women bring to their families, communities, and our collective future. And to anyone carrying mixed emotions today, we are holding space for you, too.

This Earth Day, we’re asking a harder question: Who is expected to bear the cost of progress?

In South Memphis, a historically Black community is facing the expansion of one of the world’s largest AI supercomputers, built without public input or environmental review.

As a result, 35 methane gas turbines were installed in months in a community where the cancer risk is already 4× the national average.

This isn’t isolated. It reflects a broader pattern of communities being asked to carry the burden of progress.

We’re taking a closer look at what’s happening in Memphis—and what it demands of all of us.

Emancipation was never finished.

Without land, without power, without space to exist on our own terms, freedom has always been incomplete.

In this month’s Black T, we unpack what it means to reclaim land, resist displacement, and preserve Black communities in the face of systems designed to push us out.

Featuring Amber Sherman and Rev. Dr. Earle Fisher, this conversation asks:

What will it take to secure freedom for future generations?

For generations, Black communities have fought not just for freedom, but for the land, power, and stability to sustain it.

From broken promises to modern-day displacement, the question of who controls land and who gets pushed out has shaped our past and continues to define our future.

In this month’s Black T, Give Black Alliance convenes a powerful conversation with Amber Sherman, Elaine Turner, and Rev. Dr. Earle Fisher on what it means to reclaim land, preserve community, and build lasting power.

Now we return to a defining question: What does freedom look like now?
