This 1-hour training will focus on su***de prevention presented by Samaritans.

"Building expertise to prevent su***de is critical to our mission. We’re here to teach communities how to recognize warning signs of su***de and provide support. Our su***de prevention workshops are delivered to middle and high schools, colleges and universities, workplaces, elder care facilities, and community organizations."

Training Description:

This training provides a refresher on Community Health Worker (CHW) Core Competency 6: Care Coordination and Systems Navigation. As defined by Massachusetts Department of Public Health Board of Certification of Community Health Workers, care coordination and systems navigation means that CHWs support individuals and families as they engage with health care services and other service organizations. The training will cover how CHWs address practical problems that may interfere with people’s abilities to follow provider instructions and advice. Additionally, training participants will learn how CHWs help bridge cultural, linguistic, knowledge, and literacy differences among individuals, families, communities and providers. Lastly, this training covers how CHWs help improve communications involving community members and agencies or institutional professionals and more. Please see the learning objectives below for more details:

Learning Objectives:

1. Define goals and components of care coordination versus case management
2. Identify barriers individuals and families face when accessing healthcare and/or social health services
3. Initiate relationships with community organizations serving their patient’s community
4. Describe the importance of elevating the patient’s voice in their own care
5. Understand how to utilize and navigate the 413Cares digital resource platform.

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH), Office of Community Health Workers (OCHW), in partnership with the Center for Health Impact (CHI), invites Community Health Workers (CHWs) and professionals involved in community outreach, education, and public health to participate in an interactive training on Home Visiting & Community Engagement: Safety and Best Practices.

This training will provide participants with an overview of outreach methods, engagement strategies, cultural responsiveness, and safety considerations for CHWs. Participants will explore key foundations of effective outreach, including trust-building, identifying and engaging target populations, developing outreach campaigns, and applying trauma-informed and culturally responsive practices in community settings.

This highly interactive training will include opportunities for discussion and peer learning in small groups. Participants are encouraged to come prepared to actively engage
and share experiences.

Springfield Medical Reserve Corps’ 5th training of 2026!

The Springfield MRC is a volunteer program under the Springfield Department of Health and Human Services, and it plays an important role in public health preparedness, emergency response, and building community resilience.

This Crisis Intervention Training will provide participants with essential, lifesaving skills while supporting our mission to prepare, respond, and serve during emergencies. You do not need to be an MRC member to attend. This training is free and open to the community.

The training will be led by the Springfield Police Department on Thursday, May 28, 2026, from 5:00–6:00 PM at the Raymond Jordan Senior Center (1476 Roosevelt Ave., Springfield, MA 01109).

If you’re planning to attend, we kindly ask that you register in advance using the link below or by scanning the QR code on the attached flyer. This will help us better estimate attendance and ensure we have enough supplies for everyone.
