Preservation of Affordable Housing

Preservation of Affordable Housing Preservation of Affordable Housing (POAH) is a nonprofit developer, owner, and operator.

Between 1965 and 1990, more than $60 billion in federal funding was invested in privately owned, affordable rental homes for families, people with disabilities, and the elderly. The government provided funds to underwrite the construction and operating costs of these properties, and in return, owners committed to keeping rents affordable for the fixed financing period. Now several decades later, w

ith rent-affordability restrictions expiring, much of America’s stock of subsidized housing is in jeopardy. POAH was founded as a nonprofit organization to stabilize and maintain at-risk affordable properties as vibrant, healthy homes for low-income residents—but in the highly regulated field of affordable housing, transactions don’t just happen. With flexibility and innovation, the POAH team has found ways to balance the interests of residents, owners, lenders, investors, and government agencies. Our expertise and understanding of the constantly evolving rules and opportunities in state and federal housing finance have enabled us to complete successful transactions where others may see insurmountable obstacles. We have prevented the loss of nearly 9,000 affordable housing units, and our transactions guarantee that rents will remain affordable for the long-term (20+ years).

In partnership with St. Francis, Trinity Towers South in Melbourne, FL, was proud to host “A Day Just for Her” in honor of Mother’s Day — a special self-care and joy-filled experience dedicated to celebrating the amazing women in the community. This relaxing and uplifting event focused on pampering, creativity, and connection. Residents enjoyed sweet treats along with a cozy coffee and tea bar, beauty and self-care giveaways, fun crafting activities, costume jewelry giveaways, and a lively photo booth filled with smiles and laughter. MA Housing Secretary joins nonprofit developers, local officials and residents to cut the ribbon on affordable housing in Wellfleet

Wellfleet, MA – Massachusetts Secretary of Housing and Livable Communities Juana Matias and State Senator Julian Cyr joined Preservation of Affordable Housing, Community Development Partnership and supporters and residents to officially open The Residences at Lawrence Hill, a 46-unit neighborhood located on town-owned land that is available to a range of household types.

The new development will be home to year-round Wellfleet residents who will live in highly energy-efficient homes which are inspired by the Outer Cape’s mid-century modern architectural tradition. ...

"Lawrence Hill stands out as the kind of housing our Outer Cape community sorely needs welcoming and affordable, year-round homes for working families and seniors, the very people who give this special place its heart. The collaboration between the Town of Wellfleet, CDP, POAH, the Healey-Driscoll Administration, and the local partners who helped bring this vision to life is an example for other seasonal communities to follow. This project proves what can happen when we think creatively about public land, join forces with passionate affordable housing developers, and stand firm in our belief that those who live and work on Cape Cod deserve to stay here," said Massachusetts State Senator, Julian Cyr.

Meet Four Locals and a Newcomer Just Moving in at Lawrence Hill
New tenants talk about having a year-round lease, independence, and a school nearby

WELLFLEET — From the window of his third-floor apartment at Lawrence Hill, Kyle Jackett can see the baseball diamond near the elementary school that he worked to till and level last spring. “That’s when the kids play on the field the most,” he said. Maintaining the diamond is one of his duties as dept. of public works groundskeeper, a job that he enjoys for the teamwork and time spent outdoors. ...

The first tenants have been moving into 24 of the 46 apartments at Lawrence Hill, according to Beth Impellizzeri, the Preservation of Affordable Housing property manager for the development. Here are five of them: four Outer Cape locals moving into one-bedroom apartments, and one mother and daughter who have moved here from Lynn.

As of April 21, Jackett was one of 11 households among those approved who already lived in Wellfleet, according to data provided by the Community Development Partnership (CDP). Six households are from the other Outer Cape towns, and 10 more are from up Cape. In total, 27 of the 34 households approved so far are reported to be from Cape Cod.
