Nothing better than summer in the city. ✨Whether we met you at New Beginning Reentry Services’ resource fair in Grove Hall or Alice Taylor Unity Day in Mission Hill, thanks to all who stopped by our conversation stations this Saturday! Grateful to our friends at NBRS and Henry Santana’s office- particularly Santana’s Youth Force- for organizing these awesome events, with much-needed resources and much-needed joy. 🫡

Another amazing Peace B’Que in the books! Huge thanks to our friends at the Louis D. Brown Peace Institute for bringing the city together, as they always do.

Fun fact: We remember when this event was held in the front yard of the PI! So awesome to see it take over Town Field and draw several hundred Bostonians into a beloved annual tradition. Even on a 92 degree day! We love you Louis D. Brown Peace Institute. ❤️

And today- after serving 28 years for a crime he did not commit; after the court overturned his conviction; and after the DA appealed that ruling- our much-loved colleague Stephen Pina is one step closer to justice. In a UNANIMOUS DECISION, the state’s Supreme Judicial Court upheld the lower court’s ruling and ordered a new trial. Above, Steve is reading that 34-page decision and fielding congratulations calls from far and wide. No one deserves it more.

Steve is many things: a son to Ma P; a father to Stephen Jr; a friend to too many people to count; the founder of nnw4justice; the community engagement associate for Exoneree Network; the brand ambassador for Everyday Boston; the founder of NNW Enterprise LLC, his new clothing line; and a tireless advocate for raising awareness about wrongful conviction. The one thing he is NOT is who they said he was.

This celebration of the city’s diversity never gets old: So much fun to be a part of opening day of Boston Unity Cup, a weeks-long citywide celebration of soccer, culture, and community. So inspiring in this moment to see the spectacular range of women’s and men’s teams representing 36 countries, all coming together as Bostonians to play the beautiful game. And our conversation station today was BUZZING! Thanks to everyone who shared a story with us, whether it was about your first crush (current girlfriend) or the moment you realized you were an adult (taxes) or something you own that’s precious to you (your father’s watch). Plus a big thanks to our friends at The Soccer Unity Project for making this joyful movement happen every summer. Swipe to the end for the schedule of matches!

Big thanks to Everyday Boston’s Russell Horton and Kevin Francis for their extraordinary reading of Frederick Douglass’ “What to the Slave is the Fourth of July?” earlier this week, and to Mass Humanities and Mass Cultural Council for funding this special event.

In the peace and the power of New Beginning Reentry Services’ backyard, we gathered to hear Russell and Kevin read, then explored together the many ways in which the speech- delivered in 1852- still resonates so strongly today. Thank you to Elizabeth Santiago, Everyday Boston’s Interim Executive Director, for envisioning and leading this one-of-a-kind event with Russell and Kevin, and to our friends at New Beginnings (Stacey K. Borden!) for their partnership and support. 🙏🙏🙏

Join us next Thursday eve to experience our Curiosity & Connection workshop, an informal and interactive 2-hr session that refreshes your “connecting skills” and introduces you to your neighbors—all through the sharing of personal stories. LET’S HEAR IT for the winter and spring graduates of Everyday Boston’s Bridge Project at New Beginning Reentry Services! We’re celebrating them tonight and SO WE SHOULD! They’ve done this city proud, giving their skills, hard work, and heart to bridging divides between people of all backgrounds- from driving forward our annual winter campaign to spread kindness across the city (90+ community partners, 10k kindness cards for strangers) to the spring launch of our conversation stations connecting neighbors across the city. Thank you, Josephine Simard, Lazell Cook, Russell Horton, Kevin Francis, Heather Walz, Holly Roberts, Harold Cunningham, Franklin Abernathy and Dana Johnson. We’re so grateful for all you gave to get here, and can’t wait to build with you in the months and years to come. ❤️🎉🙏
