Vital Village Network

Vital Village Network Vital Village is a network of residents and organizations committed to maximizing child, family, and community well-being.

Our place-based, community engagement network mobilizes collective investment from residents, community organizations and institutions to seed scalable and sustainable community change around child protection and promoting healthy social and emotional development in early childhood. The Vital Village Network is using a collective impact approach to supporting deeper collaboration among educators,

clinicians, social service providers, legal advocates and residents to strengthen prenatal, early childhood education, and economic security and preventive legal resources that support family and community protective factors. We have developed hubs of innovation within and a formal collaborative network across three Boston Neighborhoods: Dudley (Roxbury/North Dorchester), Mattapan, and Codman Square (Dorchester). We align preventive efforts across sectors to enhance existing services for children. This approach is sustainable because we embed community-driven preventive strategies in the context of existing systems for child health and education and community development. We strive to connect and strengthen opportunity structures that support protective factors and family strengths within existing community resources. We couple community-based participatory research and improvement science methodology to drive progress.

Conoce a Angela Pacheco D'Perez, Becaria de la Comunidad de Aprendizaje STRIVE del 2026, de la YMCA East Boston. Más sobre Angela -

Angela Pacheco D'Perez.

Angela Pacheco D'Perez. I am a proud Salvadoran immigrant, a dedicated mother, an educator, and a psychologist. I have served as a preschool teacher at the East Boston YMCA since 2021. In my daily practice, I combine my background in psychology with my passion for early childhood education, bringing a unique, trauma-informed perspective—centered on socio-emotional development—to my classroom. To this end, I establish predictable routines and implement innovative projects—such as the "Kindness Mailbox"—to support my young students' growth. Beyond my professional life, I am an active member of the Boston community—a devoted family woman who treasures the time I share with my husband and children, weaving my rich cultural traditions, my love for Latin music, and my professional expertise into every aspect of my life.

Meet 2026 STRIVE Learning Community Fellow Angela Pacheco D’Perez, from the YMCA East Boston. More about Amira -

Amira Alimohammed is a dedicated educator and lifelong learner born in Sudan, where she completed her early schooling and began studying accounting before relocating to New York and later Boston, Massachusetts, with her husband and three children. Driven by a passion for teaching that was ignited through volunteering at her son's school, she embarked on an inspiring educational journey — earning her Associate's degree from Urban College, her Bachelor's degree from Wheelock College, and currently pursuing her Master's degree — all while working full-time as a teacher at ABCD's South Side Head Start program. Rooted in the values of empathy, respect, and cultural understanding instilled through her Sudanese upbringing and Islamic faith, Amira's teaching philosophy centers on leading with an empathetic heart, embracing the full complexity of each student's life, and fostering inclusive learning environments where every child feels seen, valued, and empowered to succeed.

Meet 2026 STRIVE Learning Community Fellow Alba Bizhoti, from Catholic Charities Laboure Center. More about Alba from her bio -

"My path to early childhood education was not a traditional one, but my passion for human development and learning has always guided my work. Raised in a household shaped by parents and teachers who grew up in Albania, I bring a unique cultural perspective to my classroom — one that deepens my empathy for the diverse worlds my students come from. I approach each day with curiosity and humility, grounded in the belief that every child deserves to feel safe, seen, and free to find joy in learning."
