Charlestown Community Healing Action Team is deeply saddened to share the passing of our dear friend and longtime trauma team member, Michael “Smokey” Cain. Smokey passed away early this morning surrounded by his loving family.
For many years, Smokey worked tirelessly in the addiction and recovery field, giving his time and heart to people who needed support. He also served as a peer grief support specialist with The Sun Will Rise Foundation, walking alongside people through some of their hardest days.
Smokey was the town’s favorite DJ, generously sharing his talent at countless Charlestown events and parties. For the past 17 years, he volunteered as the DJ at our candlelight vigil. He showed up year after year because the vigil mattered to him, and so did every person there.
Smokey was a true townie with a big heart. His loss will be felt throughout our community, and we will miss him dearly.
