We’re back with another Alumni Spotlight with our National Board President: Manuel Camilion 🌟
Manny joined DKA his first semester of Freshman year at University of Miami (Xi Chapter). He came to study film production, and immediately within DKA found a group of friends that were just as interested and committed to making films as he was. Some positions he held was production chair his sophomore year until becoming cinematic affairs chair his junior year. He organized film festivals, DKA films, and produced two web series.
In DKA, he found some lifelong collaborators. The organization also helped him develop a relationship with the university faculty, as he collaborated with them in creating film festivals for the students.
These relationships are what allowed him to make a feature film his year after graduating (It’s called Santastein! Look it up).
Though not always easy, he learned to be a friend and a creative collaborator. He carries a lot of those lessons with himself now while in graduate school, pursuing an MBA — seeing the number of dedicated people trying to pursue films in the cinematic arts inspires him to keep going, pushing towards creation.
He hope to produce more films and to help create a roadmap for other students to be able to do the same. 📸
