"When students are excluded from opportunities in sports solely because they are transgender, the message is that transgender people do not belong in our schools. We must use all the tools at our disposal to fight back."

A federal judge has cleared the way for a lawsuit filed by 16 states and Washington, DC, challenging the Trump administration's attacks on health care for transgender youth. Trans youth and their families deserve access to the care they need to thrive. This ruling is another step in safeguarding that right.

The ruling allows 16 states and D.C., to continue fighting federal efforts to investigate providers and restrict access to gender-affirming care.

Vermont law now guarantees that transgender people in jails and prisons won't be placed in housing based solely on the s*x listed on their birth certificate. Instead, each person will receive an individual assessment to determine the safest and most appropriate placement for them. It's a vital protection against the violence transgender people in custody often face.
