This National Cancer Survivor Month, we're incredibly proud to showcase another powerful piece by 19-year-old pediatric brain tumor survivor, Richi Garcia Puig. His art isn't just beautiful; it's a beacon of hope and a vital part of the Richi Foundation's fundraising efforts.

Richi describes the creative process behind this painting: "I approached this piece knowing I wanted to do something with acute shapes. I began by drawing the shapes, in no particular order, making sure flat sides faced the outside of the canvas. Unlike most of my paintings, I painted the inner shapes using die. This allowed me to get the faded colors effect."

🎨 The Healing Power of Art: Gail & Richi’s Journey 💛

In 2012, Gail Erdos from Our Space, Inc. introduced Richi Garcia Puig to the world of art during his treatment at The Jimmy Fund. What started as simple creative activities soon became a lifelong bond filled with laughter, glitter, and healing. ✨

“When kids and teens are engaged in art, they can just be a child—not a patient. Art offers a sense of control when so much is out of their control,” Gail shares. For years, she visited Richi at home every week, sparking his creativity with painting, crafts, and even artistic cooking projects. No matter how sick he felt, Richi never turned down an art visit.

What began as playful sessions quickly evolved into a passion. Richi’s art grew in both skill and expression, and to this day, he continues to paint—his works now featured in the Richi Art Gallery.

As Richi shares: "The first step to completing this piece was the small blobs of paint, a drip painting that I let dry before adding more layers. I chose turquoise to cover the remaining negative space, and once the canvas was filled, I painted white shapes to disperse the composition. I call it 'Vibrant,' because the scene feels alive, not haunted, but rather appealing, full of energy and spirit."
