USW International President Roxanne Brown appeared on CBC’s Power and Politics last Friday, following her joint letter with the International Association of Machinists (IAM) to the U.S. Trade Representative, urging him to reconsider tariffs on Canadian goods and instead employ a trade policy built on the long history and unique relationship our two nations share.

"We’re very clear that Canada should not face the ire of the U.S. when it comes to trade policy because Canada is our closest friend and ally. We should really be focusing our efforts on bad actors."

Dominick Sapien’s patient had a pulverized knee and urgently needed an ambulance ride to the hospital. But the person, though in great pain and unable to move, balked at going because of the cost of care.

It’s the kind of thing that Sapien, a paramedic and president of USW Local 9012, sees all the time as an epidemic of inequality turns America into a land of haves and have-nots.

“The things you have when you are wealthy are time and money,” pointed out Sapien, who treats some of Wyoming’s poorest people in towns that sit just 160 miles from the ritzy, uber-wealthy enclave of Jackson Hole. “These are also two of the requirements for living a healthy life.”
