Join us today for May Day to fight for our health over billionaires’ wealth!

Public health is about what we all need to live and thrive—things like strong public health protections, clean air and safe drinking water, affordable housing, access to nutritious foods, and more—and the power to shape those conditions. Right now, those basics are under attack while wealth is concentrated at the top 1% and divides our communities.

This May Day, we are joining Health Resources in Action and Health in Partnership in Boston, alongside millions nationwide, to make it clear that authoritarianism is a public health crisis, and to demand: our health over billionaires’ wealth!

We hope to see you there! RSVP here: bit.ly/4t6SvIc

We are thrilled to announce the 2026 Community Leadership Awardee: the Massachusetts Association of Community Health Workers (MACHW).

Community Health Workers bridge gaps in access and trust between community members and the health care system. And for 25 years, MACHW has been the driving force behind building and sustaining that workforce.

Founded in 2000 as the first professional organization for CHWs in the United States, MACHW has grown into a statewide hub of more than 1,500 members. Their work spans professional development, collective advocacy, and ensuring that those with lived experience shape the future of community health.

Among their many milestones:
🌟 Led the effort to establish statewide CHW Certification and a governor-appointed Certification Board
🌟Launched a CHW Center of Excellence and an upcoming CHW Policy Leadership Institute
🌟Designed a fully funded master's degree program with Framingham State University — with 21 CHWs graduating this May
🌟And so much more!

When communities lead, health equity follows. MACHW exemplifies that truth every day.

Join us in celebrating their extraordinary contributions at the 2026 Spring Awards Breakfast on June 5. We hope to see you there!

Your voice is needed to strengthen healthy food access in the Mass Ready Act!

The Senate will begin debate on its version of the Mass Ready Act—also known as the Environmental Bond bill—tomorrow. So we have a small window to ensure our State Senators adopt our amendment to strengthen access to healthy, affordable food across through the Massachusetts Food Trust Program (MFTP).

As cuts to federal nutrition and agricultural programs add strain to an already overburdened statewide food system, projects like MFTP play an important role in offsetting disruptions to farms, food pantries, and grocery stores. Please take a few minutes today to call or email your State Senator and urge them adopt Amendment #12 to authorize 10M for MFTP.

ICYMI: Last week, MPHA joined the Healthy Air Network and partners for the Air Quality & Transportation Showcase in Holyoke — connecting, learning, and taking action for cleaner air in our communities.

Transportation is the leading source of greenhouse gas emissions in . The way we move matters, for our climate and for our health.

Shifting from 🚗 to isn't just good for the planet — it's essential. Regional Transit Authorities (RTAs) like the FRTA and PVTA are lifelines for residents beyond the MBTA's reach, and Fair Share investments are helping them sustain and grow that service.

Clean air and climate action go hand in hand. RTAs are key to getting people where they need to go and helping meet its climate goals.

MPHA was at the State House this week with Homes for All Mass, grassroots groups, and allied organizations from across the Commonwealth, calling on legislators to lift the statewide ban on rent control.

Housing justice IS public health.

Right now, corporate landlords are consolidating power, raising rents, and pushing people out of their homes and communities. This isn’t just an affordability crisis — it's a crisis.

Policies like rent control are how we fight back. When we enact policies that protect people’s access to safe, affordable housing, we protect the health of our residents and our communities.
