So thankful to all our friends at State Street Corporation for coming in at the end of July to help us assemble of reprint of NBP customer favorite, “The Snail and the Whale” for our Great Expectations program!

State Street volunteers have been coming to 88 St. Stephen Street for many years now (and vice versa!!) and we can’t wait to have them back!

Image Descriptions: (1) State Street volunteers most in blue State Street T-shirts stand behind a long table, covered in print and braille pages smiling. One Volunteer near the center of the group holds up a completed, print braille copy of the snail and the whale. (2 & 4) State Street volunteers pick up print and braille pages around a long wooden table from individual piles. (3) the cover of the snail and the whale. A black-and-white humpback whale comes out of a blue ocean spraying water from its blow hole. It’s tail can be seen out of the water with a small yellow snail sitting on the top. a large palm tree on the left, has a toucan with an orange beak sitting in the top while a red blue and yellow parrot flies in the sky on the top right.

We’re so proud our Customer Relations Manager Lauren Thurman and our Production Coordinator Marybeth Gilchrest for presenting earlier this week as part of a panel at the National Conference on Student Assessment in Austin, Texas!

Because neither braille or ASL have fully standardized testing formats, blind, visually impaired, deaf, and hard of hearing students are often not given fully accessible materials for assessments and instead of having their knowledge measured, the test will instead only tell how well they’re able to navigate the system.

Lauren, Marybeth and their fellow panelists discussed the importance of collaboration with both trained reviewers and students in these disability categories in order to ensure consistency and equity in assessments.

Image Description: Lauren Thurman and Marybeth Gilchrest stand behind a table with NBP merchandise spread out across the table and a branded NBP tablecloth on the front. Lauren is a tall woman with long blond hair. She is wearing a green dress with a denim jean jacket. Marybeth has long brown hair and is wearing a blue shirt with colorful florals and elbow length sleeves. Each is smiling and wearing a conference lanyard and nametag.

Congrats to our very own Joseph Quintanilla!!

Today the Woburn Host Lions invade Fenway Park! Our 76th President, Joe Quintanilla will be installed along with the starting lineup of Board of Directors for this upcoming Lions year! We will celebrate America’s pass time, our accomplishments over the last year and our members who have had a huge impact on our success! It will be great to be in one of the country’s most iconic venues to celebrate lionism, philanthropy! The Woburn Host lions Club will be in the same venue where baseball hall of famers have made their mark! We will be honoring our own hall of famers! We are proud to have a special event on the 250th year of our country at America’s favorite stadium!
A Special thanks to William J Barabino, Attorney & Councilor At Law ( www.williambarabino.com ) as well as Kevin Andrews, a Club member all the way from Chicago for their generosity in supporting the installation!
