It's time for the 1% to our pay their Fair Share. If you live in Massachusetts, please vote YES on ballot Question 1 to support the Fair Share Amendment!

Mike Lapham, Director of the Responsible Wealth Project, a program of United for a Fair Economy, shares his support in this short video.

This is today’s economic reality: those at the bottom are working harder and going without, while those at the top who profited during the pandemic are continuing life as usual.

According to a recent New York Times article, “Already, there are signs that poorer families are cutting back. If richer families don’t pull back as much — if they keep going on vacations, dining out and buying new cars and second homes — many prices could keep rising. The Fed might need to raise interest rates even more to bring inflation under control, and that could cause a sharper slowdown.”

This would be devastating for poorer families that would inevitably be the first and most impacted by a sharper slowdown or deepening crisis. It would mean lost hours and higher unemployment, especially for low wage workers. But it doesn’t have to be this way…

Responsible Wealth, a project of United for a Fair Economy, is a network of high net wealth and/or income individuals in the U.S. who believe that growing inequality is not in their best interest, nor in the best interest of society. Our Responsible Wealth members (like the one quoted in this article!) speak out on economic and social justice issues and advocate for fair taxes on wealthy individuals like themselves. Shout out to all the Responsible Wealth members using their unique voices to advocate for a fairer economy!

Americans with low incomes are pulling back from buying even as their richer counterparts keep spending — with potentially big consequences.

Members of Responsible Wealth: We don’t often ask this, but we’re asking you to take 5-10 minutes to call your three members of Congress (two Senators and one Rep) to identify yourself as a high net wealth constituent and ask that they include taxes on the ultra-rich in the current budget package.

If you do one thing today, pick up the phone and let your Senators know that inaction is unacceptable.

69% of voters believe the rich + corporations should pay more of their fair share in taxes. So why can't our Senators get it done?

We need them to lower costs for families, make the wealthy and greedy corporations pay their fair share, and fight climate change, and we need to do it NOW.

Senators need to know WE are watching as wealthy special interests too often determine what gets done in Washington, and that we’re not going to stand for it. Please call your U.S. senators today.

Over 300 high-net-worth individuals have signed the letter calling upon Congress to keep a surtax on millionaires' income in the new spending bill!

The Responsible Wealth project director, Mike Lapham, spoke at the press conference about the letter. Over 200 of those who signed are members of Responsible Wealth (a project of the national nonprofit United for a Fair Economy).

Read the letter and press release on our blog:

The letter asks the Senate to include a millionaires surcharge on incomes over $10 million in the current infrastructure budget and revenue package.

Thanks to all our members who signed!

Thanks to all our members who signed!

Congress is renegotiating a spending package to pass some of Biden's economic agenda. A group of millionaires want to pay a wealth tax to help.

The Responsible Wealth Project organized our members to sign on to a letter in support of the Billionaire Income Tax as part of the Democrat's social-spending package. Over 100 of the 250 millionaire signers are RW members or connected with UFE. The letter was organized by Americans for Tax Fairness, The Patriotic Millionaires and Responsible Wealth. Since the beginning of the pandemic, UFE billionaire wealth has increased by 70% while millions have lost jobs. https://thehill.com/policy/finance/579426-millionaires-urge-democrats-to-include-billionaire-tax-in-spending-bill?rl=1

"For over 20 years, Responsible Wealth members have advocated for progressive taxes on income and capital gains, and for taxing the wealth of people like themselves. This report makes it abundantly clear that the time for taxing wealth has long since arrived."
