The NEMPAC Opera Project was founded in 2011 with a mission to serve Boston’s artistic community of singers, instrumentalists, and artistic staff, as well as the general public by providing affordable and accessible opera in urban Boston.

Both positions will work alongside our artistic leadership to curate bold programming that celebrates Black arts, culture, and history while building meaningful connections with artists, audiences, and community partners.

Part of NEMPAC’s Artist Series, Hey It’s O.K. (Opera & Kundiman) brings together Filipino art song, opera, and musical theatre for a unique cross-cultural concert experience. Performed by Duo Filipino—soprano Lauren Florek and baritone Carlo Bunyi—with pianist Marcelline Merrill, the program features kundiman, sarswela, and beloved Western classics.

A special shout-out to co-creator and soprano Lauren Florek!

Filipino-American soprano Lauren Florek brings authenticity to a wide range of musical genres. Recent roles include Frasquita in Carmen, Queen of the Night (cover) in The Magic Flute, and Deb in Ordinary Days. In 2023, she recorded her debut album Sing a Song of Seasons by Robert Rogler at GBH’s Fraser Performance Studio.

Lauren is co-founder of Duo Filipino, an ensemble dedicated to sharing Filipino culture through classical music. She holds degrees in Vocal Performance from DePaul University and the Longy School of Music and was a Finalist in Opera Connecticut’s 2025 American Opera Idol Competition.

NEMPAC rehearsed last night at the beautiful Arlington High School for our upcoming ‘A Community in Song’ concert on Dec 10th. The program reflects NEMPACs value of collaboration, bringing together musicians and groups of all ages & abilities for a spirited program to present to our communities!

The concert is free and open to the public thanks to the support of our partners and annual contributors who support everything we do at NEMPAC and our mission to make high quality arts accessible to all.

Opera on the Prado: Oktoberfest is coming up on Saturday 10/18 @ 1 PM!

An all-German concert to celebrate Oktober — spooky lieder, Viennese waltzes, Mozart arias, and much more with soprano Naré Kim, baritone Dylan Evans & pianist Jacob LyteHaven.

No registration needed, just stroll on by the Prado to see these fantastic performers shine!

Dylan Evans (baritone): Baritone Dylan Evans (he/him) is an international artist who has performed all over the United States and Canada. Most recently, Mr. Evans covered the title role in Verdi’s Rigoletto with Boston Summer Opera and premiered a new folk opera by Steven Bergman titled Murder, M**h and Mayhem, performing as Slim/Judge. Mr. Evans made his professional opera debut singing with New York Lyric Opera as Papageno in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte and as Dr. Falke in Strauss’s Die Fledermaus with Tanglewood Opera Studio. His other operatic roles include Eisenstein (Die Fledermaus), Sid (Albert Herring), King Melchior and King Balthazar (Amahl and the Night Visitors), Peter (Hansel and Gretel), Count Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro), Marco (Gianni Schicchi), Der Sprecher (Die Zauberflöte), Motorcycle Cop/Guard 1 (Dead Man Walking) and Don Giovanni.

Naré Kim (soprano): Korean soprano Naré Kim (she/her), acclaimed for her “highly expressive phrasing” and “shimmering warmth of sound,” has appeared with MassOpera, Boston Singers’ Resource, Greater Worcester Opera, Cambridge Chamber Ensemble, Boston Opera Collaborative, Opera NEO, San Diego Opera, Seoul Metropolitan Opera, Korea National Opera, etc. Her recent operatic portrayals include Morgana in Alcina, Sidonie in Armide, Night in The Fairy Queen, Zerlina in Don Giovanni, Hanna in Die lustige Witwe, Musetta in La bohème, and Mimì in La bohème. Her performances have been praised for their combination of vocal brilliance and compelling stage presence. Naré holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Vocal Performance from Seoul National University and was an Apprenticeship Artist with the San Diego Opera’s Young Artist Program. She earned first prize in the La Jolla Symphony Young Artist Competition and second prize in the Virginia Hawk Competition, both in 2018.

Jacob LyteHaven (pianist): Jacob LyteHaven (he/him) holds a Bachelor of Music from Stetson University with concentrations in Piano Performance and Vocal Performance, and a Master of Music in Collaborative Piano from Boston University. He has performed in solo concerts across the United States, Western Europe, and Central America. Jacob has worked as a collaborative staff pianist and vocal coach at Stetson University and Boston University, playing for both singers and instrumentalists, as well as a pianist at Vero Beach Opera for their 2023-2024, 2024-2025, and 2025-2026 seasons. He is currently in high demand as a collaborative pianist, teacher, and coach in the Greater Boston area.

ABOUT HANNAH:
Soprano Hannah Shanefield (she/her) is a dynamic performer, director, and producer, serving as Executive Director of Boston Summer Opera and Artistic Director of NEMPAC’s Opera on the Prado. Her operatic credits include Gilda (Rigoletto), Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), Euridice (Orfeo ed Euridice), Diana (La Calisto), and the title role in The Cunning Little Vixen, among others.

A versatile concert artist, Hannah has sung soprano solos in works by Brahms, Bach, Mozart, Couperin, Dubois, and Bernstein. As a stage director, she has led productions with MassOpera, Boston Summer Opera, and West End Lyric, specializing in both immersive and traditional works.

Committed to new music and diverse voices, Hannah has collaborated with White Snake Projects, Boston Festival Orchestra, Horizon Ensemble, and more. She holds degrees from the New England Conservatory (MM) and the Hartt School (BM, Music History minor).
