Boston Compact

Boston Compact The Boston Compact brings together educators from district, charter and Catholic schools across Boston in order to improve education for all children.

The Boston Compact brings district, charter and Catholic school educators together in order to provide equitable access to high-performing schools and excellent instruction to all students. Before the Compact, we and our colleagues across the City worked tirelessly to prepare children for success in college and career – but we did so in inefficient silos. Through the Compact, we are building a cro

ss-sector network of educators and thinking holistically about education throughout our City. We dedicate our time and energies to this work because we know that children, families and the City benefit from our sharing of effective practices and collaboration to streamline operations. Closing achievement gaps and leveling the playing field is a long-term undertaking. We ask you to lend your shoulder to the plow and we invite your ideas, questions and support. Thank you,
Melissa Dodd, Chris Flieger and Shannah Varon

Restorative justice as an alternative to disciplinary punishment in schools not only improves teacher-student mindsets; it contributes to overall equity

Restorative justice can bring students and teachers together at a moment when, traditionally, conflict might divide them. But is it worth all of the effort?

Though it seems hard to nail down, school culture is all about communication: how beliefs, values, and actions are reinforced throughout a school community.

It starts with connections — strong and overlapping interactions among all members of the school community

What if colleges funded men of color to become educators, not athletes?
"[UIC] aims to invest $1M in an initiative to recruit and train male elementary education majors of color, similar to how universities recruit and train star athletes."

A small effort at University of Illinois at Chicago recruits men of color to be elementary school teachers the way some universities recruit athletes. It also might hold the key to improving young black male pupils' academic performance.
