Just one week left to apply for the Sport Program! Apps are due July 20. What is the Sport Program, you say?

Are you lead climbing in the gym and looking to transition your skills outside? Have you been sport climbing outdoors but want to know how to set up your own systems? Then this program is for you!

Program Details

The Boston Chapter Mountaineering Committee Sport Program teaches skills that are foundational to sport climbing. Our focus is preparing students to become self-sufficient climbers at outdoor sport crags. Along with crag etiquette & experience, route reading, and gear info, you'll also learn about lead climbing & belaying, anchor building & cleaning, and setting up top-ropes at sport crags.

The Sport Program is a two-week commitment for participants including 2 mid-week evening review sessions in Boston and 4 weekend crag days at Rumney. The program includes dinner & camping at the Rattlesnake Campground on the Saturday night of the crag weekends.

And if you are an AMC and CRG Member you can bring a guest for free, even if the guest has climbed at a CRG before. This guest will not count towards the member's June guest pass usage! Huge thanks to Todd and Donette Swain for sharing their incredibly inspiring tales of adventure climbing around the world, including first ascents on ALL SEVEN CONTINENTS! It's notable that much of their best memories aren't just of routes, but of the people they met and the friends they made along the way. And they've done so much to engage local communities in climbing, which makes it more inclusive and sustainable for everyone. Consider us inspired! And a special thanks to for hosting us!

This is what it's all about: New Seconds Weekend. The Gunks. Amazing climbing, gorgeous scenery, good friends, and putting all those new multi-pitch trad climbing skills to work! A day not soon forgotten, but just the first of many to come!

The legendary Todd and Donette Swain will share images and tales of Trad Climbing Around the World, which is an amazing chance to be inspired and share in some climbing history. This event is FREE and open to the public. All attendees must fill out a Metrorock waiver to enter the gym. What goes up must come down! Whether you find it thrilling or terrifying or just another tool in the kit, rappelling safely and efficiently is essential for multi-pitch climbing. Our Rock Program students spend a lot of time practicing these skills to get them dialed (and they seem to like it OK 😉).
