🎙️💸 Last night, the Boston Public School Committee addressed concerns regarding a $6 million budget cut to Success Boston, which helps provide youth jobs for City of Boston students. While summer jobs are unaffected, jobs during the school year will be. Ross and Jill discuss why, even when balancing the budget is necessary, the cuts we make reveal what we truly value as a city. From inflated transportation costs to bloated central office spending, what does Boston’s leadership actually prioritize?

🎙️📝 Last night, the Boston Public School Committee voted on a MassCore Policy Amendment to create carve-outs for rare and extenuating circumstances, think multilingual learners, students in career and technical education, or anyone whose path to graduation looks a little different. Ross and Jill break down why building in flexibility for these students is a good thing, but why the district’s lack of transparency around graduation and test score data might not be. What can we learn from the data we’re not being shown?

🏫💰Last night, the Boston Public School Committee unanimously passed the proposed $1.73 billion budget for the 2026-27 school year, which included an additional $15 million in healthcare costs for the Central Office Budget from the last time the budget was proposed. In the meeting, Chair Jeri Robinson came forward, requesting an audit of the budget to investigate exactly where the money was being spent. The discrepancy between how members are responding and how the district and city respond seems alarming. But what is the likelihood that this budget will be audited by the city council? Jill Shah and Ross Wilson discuss. 🎧 Listen to what happened Last Night @ School Committee at the link in biop or wherever you get your podcasts. 👆
