National Parents Organization We seek better lives for children through family court reform.

Mark Ludwig, Founder and President of the National Council of Equal Shared Parenting, delivered a heartfelt message at National Parents Organization’s New York Equal Shared Parenting Conference: the people leading this movement understand what today’s parents are facing because many of them have lived it themselves.

They know the fear of being separated from a child. They know the heartbreak of missed everyday moments. They know what it feels like to enter a family-court system that can treat a loving parent as secondary in their child’s life.

Mark’s message is a reminder to every parent fighting to stay present: you are not alone. This movement is made up of parents, grandparents, advocates, and professionals who believe children deserve meaningful relationships with both fit, loving parents.

National Parents Organization is proud to stand with families working for equal shared parenting—and for a future where no child has to lose a loving parent because their parents live apart.

The program is available in English and Spanish through live virtual classes and a self-paced online option.

Healthy co-parenting is not only good for children—it can help parents, too. A 2026 study reported that co-parenting directly reduced parenting stress for both mothers and fathers. When the school calls, both parents should be prepared to answer. When a child is sick, has a big test, makes a team, or needs support, parenting should not depend on which home the child slept in the night before. Meaningful shared parenting means both fit parents remain informed, available, and involved in the everyday decisions that shape a child’s life.

One practical co-parenting tool is a shared transition checklist for schoolwork, clothes, sports gear, medication, and comfort items. It is not about being perfect. It is about making sure children do not have to manage the gaps between adults.
