Next up in our Alumni Spotlight series, we’re proud to highlight Dr. Nola Haynes, M.Div. ‘14, whose career reflects the power of interdisciplinary thinking, public engagement, and community leadership.
Dr. Nola Haynes is a political scientist, educator, and communicator working at the intersection of international security, emerging technology, and public engagement. Whether she’s teaching, writing about space security, hosting her podcast Nola Haynes Is Not A Spy, appearing on television, interviewing members of Congress, or speaking with community groups, her mission is the same: making complex national security issues more accessible because these conversations belong to all of us.
One of Dr. Haynes’ greatest joys has been serving as Co-Chair of Harvard Black Alumni Weekend 2027 alongside Dr. Maleeka Glover. She sees this role as an opportunity to bring Black alumni together, strengthen relationships, and invest in the future of the community.
Dr. Haynes credits Harvard with teaching her to think across disciplines and explore the intersection of ethics, history, and public life. That perspective continues to shape her work in research, media, and public engagement, reminding her that policy is ultimately about people.
Through HBAS, Dr. Haynes has found mentorship, connection, and a community that reflects a belief she’s carried throughout her life: none of us succeeds alone. We open doors for one another, share each other’s stories, and create opportunities for those who follow.
