We had a truly wonderful, and important trip, getting back on the 2nd. Although it turned out we were unable to go north into the highlands and visit the women, we instead spent much time hanging out with younger artists and designers and visiting the very new cafes and galleries that have opened up to show their work. There are many exciting things happening, and some wonderful work being done.
We also met with the Apparel Dept at the College of Design, and spent about an hour with the senior students. More about this later, but this meeting is also opening up new opportunities for collaboration. Overall, we are very encouraged.
Thank you for thinking of us while were away :)

Well, after 2 years, we're finally heading back to Hanoi and Ha Giang. Tomorrow! We're greatly looking forward to seeing friends again, and meeting the people at the Hanoi College of Industrial Design again (nearly 15 years ago!).

If you didn't get a chance to see this this first time I posted it, here's another chance! What he's saying is hugely important. Also, he mentions the Mrs. Mai in VN, who is the same woman Anh and I met in 2012, and who is featured on Arts Bridge International.

Early this Spring, we received our official IRS approval as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, meaning in practical terms we are able to receipt donations.
We also just got put up a basic website, http://artsbridgeinternational.org, where you can see much of what is on this FB page, but also how you might support this work financially or become involved in some other way.
Thank you again, to all of you who have taken an interest in our non-profit work! We look forward to growing together!

Some of you might be wondering how on earth we got here. In 1997, while working for REI-VN, Ha Giang was the first place I went beyond the main cities in VN. I've always wanted to go back. Then, in August, 2010, Anh read an article in the NY Times. The rest of the story is to be found here: http://avsawyer.blogspot.com/
