Investing early pays off. 💙

For every $1 invested in Healthy Families Massachusetts, the Commonwealth sees an estimated $3.11 in benefits.

Healthy Families Massachusetts connects first-time parents with trained home visitors who provide free, voluntary support during pregnancy or a child’s first year of life and through the child’s first three years.

Through trusted relationships, home visitors help families:
Build parenting and child development skills
Set and work toward personal goals
Create safe, stable, and nurturing homes
Connect with health care, early intervention, behavioral health, housing, and other community resources

Home visiting helps families access support early—before challenges escalate—and strengthens the community systems families rely on.

That’s why the Children’s Trust supports the reauthorization of the Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting Program (MIECHV) and continued federal investment in evidence-based home visiting.

Investing in families early is an investment in healthier children, stronger families, and thriving communities.

What if investing in fathers was also an investment in the future?

Research shows that when fathers are supported as active, engaged parents, children and families benefit—and communities can see long-term social and economic gains.

A 2018 report estimated that the federal government spent $154.2 billion on major assistance programs supporting children and mothers in father-absent households.

The case for investing in fathers is about more than a number. It’s about recognizing that meaningful father engagement can strengthen parenting, support children's wellbeing, improve family stability, and help prevent challenges from escalating.

In Massachusetts, we’re seeing the impact of intentional investment in action:
📈 In Greater Brockton Healthy Families, engagement of both parents during at least one home visit increased from 28% in 2024 to 62%.

💰 For every $1 invested in Healthy Families Massachusetts, the Commonwealth sees an estimated $3.11 in future cost savings.

👨‍👧‍👦 Through programs like the Nurturing Fathers Program at the Hampshire County House of Corrections, fathers are building parenting skills and maintaining meaningful connections with their children.

Father engagement is more than participation.

Keeping children safe online starts with knowledge, conversation, and preparation.

Technicool: Keeping Kids Safe on the Internet is a two-hour virtual training for parents, caregivers, and community providers interested in preventing sexual abuse and supporting children and youth in digital environments.

Participants will explore online risks, learn how to intervene around grooming and other risky behaviors, and gain practical tools for supporting healthy online safety boundaries.

The work of strengthening systems for children and families requires more than action. It requires a willingness to listen, learn, and examine the assumptions that shape our work.

Join the Massachusetts Initiative to Reduce Child Neglect, for Why Harm Persists: Retaining Benefits and Avoiding Accountability, a virtual educational session presented by Matthew Kincaid of Overcoming Racism.

The session will explore how historical narratives surrounding poverty, race, and parenting continue to influence policy, practice, and decision-making. It offers an opportunity to step back, listen, and consider how we can approach this work with greater context and intention.

Every Nurturing Fathers graduation ends with those words.

Over the past five years, 161 fathers across Massachusetts have shared personal reflections on the parents they are working to become stories of growth, resilience, and the commitment to build something different for their children.

Their message reveal a powerful truth: the past does not have to determine the future.

Through Nurturing Fathers, participants build skills that help them strengthen relationships with their children and create new patterns for their families.
