Another quick peak into our free professional development course on treating trauma in schools. Dr. Stephanie Jones of Harvard's EASEL Labs discusses Social Emotion Learning in schools and how it intersects with trauma care.

Mental Health Literacy is important for all school staff to ensure their students are ready and enable to engage in the process of learning. The National Center for Safe Supportive Schools created this free video series to train school staff on this and other important school mental health topics, with a focus on childhood trauma. Up to 20 Free CEUs for Mental Health Counselors available for completion of our new online course developed in partnership with Simmons School of Social Work as part of their Institute for Trauma Treatment in Schools (ITTS). This FREE 2 part course, Treating Trauma in Schools: Foundations and Practical Applications for Professional Practice, focuses on treating trauma in a youth population, particularly in school settings. Course 1 consists of 8 Hours of foundational content, and Course 2 contains an additional 12 hours of content exploring practical applications and work with special populations.

Continuing Education Credits (CEUs) for mental health counselors are available for those who complete one or both courses, provided by Simmons University and the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC). You can find out more about the Course and register for one or both courses here:

Participants will also be invited to participate in a university study of the effectiveness of the course if they so chose.
