New England Regional World History Association (NERWHA) New England Regional World History Association (NERWHA) In the rush of the recent stunning success of its symposium series, NERWHA is expanding its operations.

Energetic and rapidly expanding, NERWHA is the region's leading association for teachers, researchers, and students who study world history. Presently based at Northeastern University, NERWHA holds semi-annual symposia in April and November, publishes a newsletter, and presents awards and travel grants to deserving students. Founded in 1993 as one of the earliest regional affiliates of the World H

istory Association, NERWHA pioneered regional conferences and online discussions on the research and teaching of world history. Although the organization fell into a period of desuetude during the 2000s, it was abruptly revitalized in April 2011. Today NERWHA is animated by the tremendous energy of its diverse and growing membership, which includes K-12 teachers, professors, students, public historians, and independent scholars. The association also benefits from an ambitious leadership team that is passionately committed to the advancement of world history in New England. Priorities for 2012 include implementing a series of awards for students, establishing a presence of NERWHA scholars at nearby history conferences, and continuing networking efforts with other organizations that are NERWHA's natural allies.

Hope to see a good NERWHA contingent this year! Take advantage of these free local tours if you come to Pittsburgh!

Do you enjoy digging deep into local history with a global story? Yes, so do we. For this year's Pittsburgh ENERGIES Conf choose from different local tours; the first 3 require registration (Heinz History Ctr, Carrie Blast Furnace & Maxo Vanko Murals).
For Heinz, conference speakers must register by 4/1/23 (No kidding!) to avoid conflict with their session.

Don't worry about the pricetag, it's complimentary thanks to our co-sponsor University of Pittsburgh's World History Center & other departments. Registration link under the tours tab: https://www.thewha.org/conferences/2023-energies/.

George Mason University Press announces the Winter 2023 issue (Vol. 20 No. 1) of World History Connected (https://journals.gmu.edu/whc). It is the second produced by the Press, but also marks the journal’s 20th anniversary of its effort to support and disseminate globally both archivally based research and the scholarship of teaching in the field of world history.
This issue might be most interesting to teachers since the focus is on Standards in World History that explore models and challenges that different states have faced over the past few years. Here's the introductory article from the guest editor, Prof. Stephen Jackson, of University of Sioux Falls. https://journals.gmu.edu/index.php/whc/article/view/3530
Additionally, there is a spotlight on Deborah Johnston and her career as a world history teacher, a recent recipient of WHA's Pioneer in World History. As someone who has been trained and mentored by Deb over the years, you can easily understand why I call her the "fairy godmother of world history." https://journals.gmu.edu/index.php/whc/article/view/3530

Congrats to Dane Morrison on this great honor!

A huge congratulations to WHA member Dane Morrison who was recently named one of the recipients of the John Lyman Book Award for his work "Eastward of Good Hope". His work focuses on Yankee merchants/sailors who ventured well beyond the Cape of Good Hope after British mercantile restrictions were lifted. For those who attended the WHA Bilbao 2022 Conference, hope you were able to attend his Meet the Author session.

You can view more details about his book & even make a purchase from this page on the John Hopkins University Press website: https://www.press.jhu.edu/books/title/12155/eastward-good-hope.
