Home Improvement Program at HRI The Home Improvement Program (HIP) offers low-interest mortgages, free rehab management & much more

The Home Improvement Program (HIP) provides low-interest home improvement loans and technical assistance to homeowners in Cambridge. We help owners of small 1-4 unit properties to perform needed maintenance and repairs that are within their budgets, no matter how limited their means. Typical repairs include roofs, porches, electrical and plumbing systems, exterior carpentry, lead abatement, weath

erization/insulation and adaptations for handicapped residents. HRI staff work with the homeowner to:

*Inspect the home
*Prioritize with the applicant the work needed
*Determine applicant eligibility and what assistance is available for the work needed
*Prepare, for approval of the applicant, a list of repairs to be done
*Prepare necessary bid documents
*Assist with contractor selection
*Arrange for loan closing
*Make periodic inspections of the work as it progresses
*Process payments for contractors

The HIP program is funded by the City of Cambridge and private foundations, including the Cambridge Community Foundation and the Sheila Gamble Fund.
