Fenway Civic Association

Fenway Civic Association Fenway Civic is a board-driven, all-volunteer, member-supported organization whose goal is to promote and sustain a vital, livable neighborhood.

In 1961, a group of East Fenway friends and neighbors became concerned with declining conditions in their neighborhood and decided to try to do something about it; thus the Fenway Civic Association (FCA) was founded. Its volunteers write periodic newsletters, organize a variety of special events for members, and are fully informed participants in all public processes. Unlike many community organiz

ations, FCA does not receive public funds and has no financial stake in the decisions being made, enabling it to act wholly in the best interest of the neighborhood. There are no corporate sponsors, no slick brochures, no hired staff, and no office. But what FCA does have is the ear of our public officials and the respect of the residents, institutions, and businesses, who depend on FCA leaders for their expertise, experience and honest work on behalf of a better Fenway. That legacy continues in today’s Fenway Civic Association. FCA – now active in both the East and the West — has become respected for its dedication, resourcefulness and hard work to improve the Fenway Neighborhood through its programs to:

Saturday’s “We Are Fenway” event at Edgerly Plaza 8/15/26 was a great family and community event, thanks to all involved and glad to see so many Fenway faces! Thank you Fenway Community Center! We’re looking forward to more outdoor events: on 8/22 Junkyard Plaza, 8/25 Ramler Park concert, and 9/10 Fenway Block Party at Symphony Park. More details to come!

This event was part of the New Edgerly Plaza activation series sponsored by FCA and City of Boston Streets department through a Fenway/Kenmore Impact grant from the City of Boston.

Travel alerts: This Monday, lane closure begins on Bowker Overpass. Water all around us… The Back Bay Fens https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Back_Bay_Fens, as we mostly see it today, was designed in 1878 by the renowned landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted https://olmsted.org/blog/2023/07/05/olmsteds-explanation-of-the-back-bay-fens/ . The fens was a saltwater tidal marsh which was a foul-smelling, polluted sewage-dumping ground. Olmsted introduced sanitary engineering that utilized the twice daily tides to flush out the pollutants. But dams were built on the Charles, and pollution was trapped and festered. New Road Construction on Mass Ave near Symphony:

Dates August 15, 2026 through November 2026
Construction Times: Starting Monday, August 17: Work will typically occur Monday through Friday, from 7 AM to 7 PM. All work will take place inside the work zone barriers. Scope of work: roadway modifications along Mass Ave include new pavement markings and roadway restriping, installation of jersey barriers, and creation of protected bicycle lanes. Updated signage will also be installed. All work is weather dependent and subject to change. The purpose is to relocate and create space for underground utility infrastructure.

Boston to host the second National Urban Rat Summit, Sept 23-24. City officials will host participants from across the US, and focus on evidence-based strategies for managing and reducing the city’s rat population. The inaugural conference in 2024 coincided with the initiation of the Boston Rodent Action Plan, which is ongoing. Dear Members and Friends:

What a summer! 250th Anniversary USA!, World Cup, Sail Boston (through the 16th), Noah Kahan had a blockbuster 4 concert stand at Fenway Park while the Sox just hit an 8 game winning streak! This week we’ll fill our Fens with some awesome concerts - thanks to better weather, we start the Tuesday Sunset Concert series at Symphony Park, then swing on over to Ramler Park on Wednesday for great jazz at “Swingin’ in the Fens”. On Saturday, New Edgerly Plaza has an open air market!

In this heat, you need to find some cool shade! FCA is committed to increasing our tree canopy, and partnered with Boston Parks and Skanska to put two eastern redbuds and two tulip trees in the Back Bay Fens. We want to thank the Parks forestry staff, Skanska, and Councilor Durkan for helping make this project a success! See photos below.

Jazz will fill the air thanks to JGJ All Stars featuring Terri Lyne Carrington, Berklee Institute of Jazz and Gender Justice.
