Our Trails Committee hosted an event on April 26 to celebrate Earth Day with a cleanup day in Hopkinton. The ~20 volunteers cleared about 30 blowdowns and completed brushing on a section of trail roughly 2.5 miles long from Ashville Pond to the North Road parking lot, in addition to reblazing trail markers.

Thank you so much to everyone who came out and dedicated their time to performing some much needed maintenance on the trails we love, and thank you to the Trails Committee for putting it together! It was a productive day thanks to all your help!

Our backpacking committee kicked off the first weekend in spring with a trek down the Narragansett Trail! The group started with a loop around Green Falls Pond in Pachaug and followed the trail south, with a stay at Legend Wood lean-to Saturday night. This event was ideal for novice backpackers who wanted some practice and experienced backpackers who wanted to test out new gear or adjust their packing style. Thanks to everyone who spent the weekend with us!

Our trails committee has been very hard at work restoring a section of the Mt. Tom trail in Arcadia, north of route 165. Recently, the group finished the hardest segment by removing large boulders within a section containing a lot of elevation change in a few feet. There is work yet to be done to finish this particular segment for this multi-week project, but take a moment to appreciate the hard labor our volunteers do!

Please note that the below photographs show the product of a days’ worth of work and do not indicate that the trail restoration is complete. The process includes weeks of additional monitoring for drainage and erosion. Enjoy this snapshot!

If you are interested in joining our team of volunteers please reach out to us! We are looking for a new Trails Chair to coordinate this group of hard working volunteers.
