🌟 Workforce Development Month Spotlight: Rose

For Rose, career-connected learning means getting real-world experience in the field she hopes to build her career in.

Through the EDU Pathway program, Rose completed a summer placement at Bright Horizons, where she gained hands-on experience working with young students. She has continued working part-time during the school year, building valuable skills and experience with the age group she hopes to serve as a future school counselor or child psychologist.

At the same time, Rose is a full-time early college student at Roxbury Community College. She will graduate this May with an associate degree before transferring to a four-year institution.

Her journey is a great example of career-connected learning in action—combining education, work experience, and career exploration to help students prepare for their futures. 🎓 💼

🌟 Celebrating Workforce Development Month!

What does career-connected learning look like for a high school student?

Through our EDU Pathway program, students in grades 10–12 are exploring careers in education while gaining the skills, certifications, and hands-on experience they need to take their next steps.

Our 80+ students participate in work-based learning experiences that can include:

📚 Supporting students in classrooms
🏫 Learning alongside teachers and school leaders
💼 Completing paid internships in education settings
🎓 Earning industry-recognized certifications
🤝Tutoring and supporting students through academic programs
💡Exploring the many different careers that make up the field of education

From summer internships to instructional walkthroughs, classroom experiences, and career-focused projects, students are getting the opportunity to see what it means to work in education—and to begin building their own professional networks and experience along the way.

The goal is simple: connect learning to opportunity and help students envision themselves in the careers of the future.

BTR Graduates — join us for our Grade Level/Content/Curriculum Collaboration Grading Party! 🎉

Bring a grading challenge, problem of practice, or questions you’ve been thinking through, and spend the day working side by side with fellow BTR graduates and BTR grad coaches.

Come collaborate, work through your grading challenges, and get grading done with colleagues who understand the work.

🌱 BTR Teacher Network Learning Site Nights: Building Safe, Productive & Culturally Sustaining Classrooms

Join the BTR Teacher Network, Boston University, and the BPS New Teacher Development Department for a collaborative learning experience designed for early-career educators.

🗓️ October 15 | Relationship and Routines: Foundations for Learning

Together, we’ll step into the classroom through video stories from BTR graduates and dig into the why, what, and how of building learning environments where students can thrive.

Participants will have time to network with other early-career teachers, enjoy a provided dinner, study classroom practice through video and conversation, identify a unit of change, and develop a plan for implementation.

🎓 Graduate credit opportunities are available, including 3 graduate credits through Cambridge College at Bay Path for the Summer Institute + October Learning Site Night. Additional ALC credit opportunities are available through participation in the October and March Learning Site Nights and the Sense Making sessions.

A new OECD Education Working Paper, Alternative Pathways into Teaching: Broadening Access and Expanding Diversity, explores how alternative pathways can open the teaching profession to a broader and more diverse pool of candidates.

We’re proud that BTR is featured in the report as an example of an alternative pathway into teaching—and especially excited to see the work of our community recognized as part of this larger conversation about the future of the teaching profession.
